Hi, first let me say I love doing business with BB. But do all the realborn kits look alike or is that just me. I looked on another doll site and the babies seem to have different expressions and they are bigger. I prefer a baby that is at least 20in with a 14+ head. All the realborn seem to be small except for Joseph. I love the face of Joesph awake but he is so small 18in and Jade she is only 18in too. Anyway I was just wondering what others think
The way the babies are scanned allows for little difference in expressions. There are also non- realborn kits available that have different expressions.
There’s a 3 month old and a toddler realborn kit as well, not all of them are newborn sized.
Have you looked at the galary . Landon is the only 21” kit and of course you have 3 month Joseph and toddler Emmy . Maybe non realborn kits would be better . Denise Pratt does amazing detailed limbs .
A lot of the realborns look similar because they are related to each other, siblings or cousins…
They do look alike because many of them are kin. As for size…God did that. They are scans of the real babies at their real size. my only problem with them is their supposedly one size fits all torso. Sometimes you have to buy bigger cloth bodies than BB recommends if you want them to look right. As for their size, they are actually all different sizes. Some are long and lanky. Some are short and fat. Dominic is pretty big. Laila is tiny. They are all extremely unique. As for head size, just like real babies, some have big heads. Some have small heads. You can’t use their listed head size to predict their limb size. A big head baby may actually have short limbs.
As others have said, if you don’t like them, you may need to look at the regular kits. They have all different sizes. Look carefully at the pics. One thing I will say is that BB gives extremely clear pictures from all different angles and they show you all the limbs. Some of the other sites hide ugly limbs in their pics…like the Mary by Olga Auer kit I’m working on. I fell in love with her face. But none of the prototype pics show you all of her dolly details. Her limbs are out of proportion for her head, her feet look terrible, and her ears are dolly…among lots of other things. If BB had been selling this kit, I would have been able to see all that before buying it.
Here’s Charles with my 4 month old. I don’t think he is small! My daughter is about average sized. Landon is big. And I don’t think they all look alike although some do look similar.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Realborns!
I haven’t done Charles yet. But I’m glad to know he’s pretty good size. I want to use him as a portrait baby for my son Mason. Mason was a fairly good size baby, 8 pounds 4 ounces. So it looks like Charles might even been about the right size.
Oh my goodness, she’s so adorable! That hair and those eyes!
Katie!! They NEED to scan your daughter Pronto!!! That expression is priceless!!
I love the Realborns and while some share some similar features I do not think they look alike. I only recently started to paint Realborns and some that I thought looked very much alike are far less so when I have the actual kit in front of me. I think I perceived them as looking more alike because the prototypes were painted by the same artists.
I have about 20 kits, and only about 2 are RealBorn. So, yes, I can say that there are lots of sizes available in the regular kits. So cute ones, too. Hence the reason I have 20 already! (I only started in February!) But, I keep a watch for sales and for the ones I want. I don’t buy all of them, of course, but the ones I really want, I feel that I need to get them when they are on sale, else they may not be on sale again for awhile. I know I have said it before, but I so appreciate BB for the way they do business. The fact that their kits are affordable. I mean – 3 month Joseph would have been a lot higher, I think, on some of the other sites. But their prices and quality help older folks like myself who don’t have lots of funds.
They each are unique. Especially in person, they all are very different. Some you can definitely see the likeness, but there are several that definitely look much different than others (Landon, Charles, zuri, Leif, etc)
Since they were scanned at similar ages, they are true to size, but differ as much as every other infant.
Their detailing is amazing, and I prefer them to some expensive kits because their limbs are incredible. I have purchased amazing high end kits that I was so disappointed with their limbs, ruins the whole kit for me.
I can take some photos of their heads and faces together if anyone would like… I believe I have a good 15 or so different realborn kits
I’ve only seen one in person, so there may be a big difference when not looking through a computer screen, but I definitely agree that they’re very similar from what I’m seeing. Don’t get me wrong, I think they’re great kits, but I’m not wowed by the diversity - Landon and Joseph (3 month) are the only ones that really stick out as “different” to me.
I find myself wondering oh I wonder if this one is the sibling to that one all the time! I love the realborn kits. They are so true to size. I find with other kits they are not proportionate.
Yes, they do resemble each other, but they are related.I like to pull up images on google of each one to get different interpretations… Many of the prototypes are done by a few of the same artists(with good reason-they’re the best) but just as the older kits, you may not get to see a different variety of outcomes. Funny, i’ll see a reborn and like how it’s done and think I’ll try to aim towards that version. Low and behold my current strawberry cream will probably be a italian greek again!
I agree with you it seems like I offended some people that was not my intention. I have made about every kit BB sells and I just noticed that the realborns seemed to look alike to me. Now that I know they are from babies that are related it makes since. I am working on Landon asleep now and would like to get Landon awake but he looks mad to me. I love Joseph awake but he looks so small 18 in and 13 in head, someone mentioned Dominic is a good size baby so I guess he will be next.
Ledbetterlittles I would love to see pictures if you have time. Thank you
You didn’t offend me I am not related to any of them and you are entitled to your opinion and I too see they look quite a lot alike it has to do with genes lol .
