Curly mohair

i bought curly mohair for an AA baby.I like how it looks rooted but when pullling strands from the swatch some always seems to ball up in a rats nest…Any tricks to using the curly hair so some doesnt become a ratty ball?

I cut it with scissors. You lose a little bit, but it doesn’t ball up.

My problems come more after it is rooted on the doll head. Part of that is because I like longer, thicker hair. Have you tried a little leave on conditioner or baby detangler?

This was just cheap mohair Maybe why.
I am going to use conditioner but wanted to glue it first .i havent tried any on the swatch Think it would help?

I used Angela’s too on my last doll and I love it but this time on another head I cut each piece in half instead of thirds to have longer hair and oh my goodness… it matts as I root the other side. I know once I’m done and glue it will be fine. I’ll gently comb it out with conditioner and some curl keeper and all will be fine. But wow, I was surprised how much a bit of length changed the amount of tangling/matting.

Beb exactly! ive been cutting it in half .
Its matting on her head where its tihck too.

If you don’t want it long, you can cut it in 3 if it’s 6 inches so you get 2" pieces and you’ll tangle way less. I’m almost done rooting but I don’t dare get all the tangles out until I glue for fear of removing too much rooted hair. I already pick out the excess hairs while rooting so it should be ok but she’s going to look funny drying. All her hair is in the air and matted with super long lashes sticking out. Hee. I like the swirl I got on her. Only my second fully rooted babe (I used to paint hair only). Fingers crossed she’ll be as cute as I hope.

I’m using yearling. Please don’t get me wrong, I love her mohair and have been building a small stash of it for fear of running out.

I have not been spraying it as I root this time, although I did last time, once all over with conditioner at the beginning and then only with water as I needed. I find rooting is going faster without all the spraying this time but it is matting. It will be easy to neaten once done though. I tried holding the roots in place with one hand and detangling with the other and it seems to be fine.

Is there anything wrong with not wetting as I go along?

Put a pic up Bebe… heres mine.Same …standing on end until glued

Anybody ever glue a section at a time ?Keep whats in while you root the rest?
.I did glue her one eyebrow in . other rubbed hair out doing her head…
Lesson for me…hair first then eyebrows and lashes

Sony I have found a few small weak spot on this head…Good to know…never thought of that. Thanks

Do you mean you used 1/3 pieces (cut each strand into 3) or that you cut 1/3 off so you are using 2/3 the length (4" out of the 6")?

It’s the cut end for sure. Angela is really good about marking it and I’m careful to keep the right direction. It’s nice of you to mention it, though, in case I didn’t know. I think it’s because of the length and my turning the head on the pillow. I get tired of being in one postion too long so I move it around sometimes and sometimes it slips out of place, creating friction on the hair.

I know the hair is laying down right, It just needs to be combed, cut and styled. Right npw she’s like baby Einstein. I can’t imagine doing a custom and having the customer insist on a pic at this stage. If she doesn’t know much about reborning she might freak .

I like doing directional micro rooting except for breaking needles occasionally. :grimacing: I don’t bother heating the head though, so my bad. I’ve always been aware of hair growth patterns even before starting to reborn so I don’t map, just go with the picture in my head. I like her little swirl. Hopefully I can get her style right when I’m done.

Where do you buy your Slumberland? Is it more or less $ than Angela? Like you, I’m using CAN$. Ick.

By the way, I really liked your last little Rosebud. A little while back I had my finger on the PayPal button and someone beat me to it.

@Sony72 Thanks, Sonja. Much appreciated!
