You are welcome. That’s really sweet. You should make one sometime!
All my cuddle babies went to adult collectors (not as a therapy).
Me (and usually other artists) charges much less for the cuddle babies. But I would not say that they are equally popular as full limbed dolls.
I myself have several cuddle babies from artists-friends for the reason to see their work.
This is examples of great popular artists that painted a few prototypes. She sold those listed below for $250. I saw them in person at the Yophi 2024 and they are very nicely painted. So for those who can’t afford more expensive dolls, it’s a great way to afford a baby.
Thanks Yelena… That is great to know. I ‘retired’ as I have mentioned before but have been watching these post about cuddle babies and they grabbed my interest because painting a doll head only would be something that would take less time and might actually tempt me back into the ‘game’ on a ‘parttime’ basis… You ladies with all your beautiful baby pictures have already been doing that anyway - definitely a motivator… I have nerve damage in my neck and lower back and the beginnings of arthritis in my thumbs so the reborning got to be a bit too much but these cuddle babies might be a way back into something that I believe will never be fully out of my heart - (Reborning)… would have set back up again if I do though because I sold off most all my supplies but that will give me a chance to try out the new BB heat set paints IF I decide to proceed…
Wow, she really must love to make them. Considering they would cost $100-$150 in supplies that leaves very little profit. I think $350-$550 is a more average price range I see for cuddle babies
Ok can someone tell me how they currently stuff their limbs? In the past I used poly pellets in limbs and glass beads in body. I know some sew pouches or something to go in the limbs but that seems like a hassle to me anyway, and I don’t know how you would get all the nooks and crannies filled in the hands especially. Do some people just dump glass beads in and then add stuffing? I’m not sure what to do anymore…
I use weighting beads in my cuddle baby limb. They’re finer and heavier than poly pellets so they feel more realistic. Also, they don’t crunch like pellets do. I use a knee high stocking in the limbs. I put it in before I pour the glass beads in. I fill them about 1/2-2/3 of the way, depending on how heavy I want the total weight, and then use polyfil for the rest.
So you said you pour the glass beads in-are the weighting beads glass beads? Do you feel the know where you tie the knee high shut?
They are the glass beads. I pull the knot really tight and cut the excess close to the knot. The polyfil that I use for the rest of the limb covers the knot if it’s centered.
