Copy cats...(could be hot button fair warning)

Thanks, Gina :slightly_smiling_face: he was sweet back when I started but then I looked back and realized he was one ugly little fella LOL so let’s hope another doesn’t look like it :joy: I begged my husband to let me get one of your babies but he said we could absolutely not drop $500 + on a doll and to make my own :joy:
And oh yes, definitely still painting!
you have every right to be upset about it, but no one can steal your talent or make babies quite like you.

Does hubby have any idea how much supplies can cost to make your own when you include kit, body, hair, eyes, paint, sealer, electricity (if you bake)? Never mind. Maybe it’s better if he doesn’t know. lol

Oh he funded my whole mission! He said I will drop that kind of money if you will get into it and make many :joy: I think it cost him $600 to get me started. Once I got started I was able to get a few bucks to get another kit.
Sorry Gina, not trying to hijack your post :grimacing:

This is very similar in color and markings of Gina’s Euphemia, Effy. Can’t hol a candle to Gina’s painting abilty and you might check out Gina,s site. Se has lovely pastel shades and no one said it was exact just too similar for comfort, espcially color and eye marking.

The makeup is an exact copy of Gina’s Manicotti.

Oh, thanks you! Now I can say that that baby was copied. I didn’t see that Manicotti in @Gabriell nursery.

It took me a bit to scroll down and find it but I knew for sure I had seen that exact makeup look before!

The costuming is pretty dang similar, too, but the face is undeniably copied (albeit poorly, as others have said).

So aggravating that someone has the gall to attempt to try to copy another artist’s work :rage:

Agree. There is whole spectrum of color and design out there- it really shouldn’t be that hard to take inspiration and make something one’s own.

Before I made my mime I searched the forum, Reborns, Gina’s IG, and even Google images to make sure the makeup style and costuming weren’t too similar to someone else’s work (though mimes are a bit more limited than clowns).

Just seems like the bare minimum of creative courtesy to me :woman_shrugging:t2:

Oh yes, that is definitely copying. It’s too similar to not be. But it’s certainly not as good as the original! That kind of talent is unique!

No way, I love this. That was kinda cool that he believed in you. Keep painting, or make him sleep with the first baby you made between you at night.

I love this baby! Some babies you are not so sure of until you paint them and they just have attitude.

Thank you Joy.

I sell a lot of babies off platform to collectors I give first right of refusal, I still post them on IG so people can see them because I feel like a little kid when I am done and want what I made on the refrigerator.

Well, now I feel like it’s a complete dilemma to me. I always loved your work even before I became a ‘wonna-be-a-reborner’. I admired your Pinocchio and wanted to paint one. I admired one of you clown so much that I said to other artists that I want to paint a baby-clown exactly like Gina’s. I probably would not have my own vision for them if not your work’s inspiration. Now it seems that I will never paint those because you (or someone) already done that.

If you attend any famous museum in Europe, it almost always a group of students trying to copy masterpieces - this is how they learn from the masters.

I think I see it differently because I always wanted to paint like Gina.

It was a good mime! The costuming was spot on, down to the beret, and you were very gracious.

I am just going to say, Friday was kinda cool. I am going to write about it here because, where else can you write about stuff like this and people kinda don’t think you are crazy?

Joy and I are neighbors, (Evan Nather just became a neighbor of mine also thanks for letting me know @Shera1) Joys kids go to the same school as the mouse. Last week I bought a sculpt from Joy and she brought it after school for pick ups. We usually hang out on the playground and let the kids work out all the energy they have and do things they are not allowed to do during the school day like hop fences, turn safety cones into mega phones, wear popped balls as hats, scavenger lunch left overs…

My kid is always the one with a big stick (sigh) and her youngest is always the one dress like a mini artist, striped leggings and ballet shoes, a cute carpet bag with stickers and markers (kill me).

When I pulled out the sculpt from its box I swear some kind of bat signal went off and we were swarmed by kids. They put that sculpt through it, they were fascinated with they eyes coming in and out, they played baby hands, it was hilarious.

On Friday I brought a cuddle baby that I am donating to a memory home (because it will not move on reborns, not my best work). I barely sat down and that baby got snatched away by kids and moms like it was a chocolate cupcake or Pokemon cards. My goodness.

We have fake grass, black top, and tanbark on the playground, That baby was tossed around, went up the climbing structures, was fought over, eyes got poked… you name it. I was kinda freaked out at first but I loved how much they loved it and it was a good experiment. Let’s just say these babies are way more durable than we think they are. The fact it still had two eyelashes left amazed me.

If someone says “the paint wore off, I just keep it its little basket, hardly ever touch it, can you refund me?” is messing with you.

That baby got a years worth of rough handling in a couple hours. It was mostly girls, or gender fluid kids who were interested in the doll. You could tell the kids who are going to have lots of kids someday, and some kids who maybe should get a puppy instead (smile) mostly super cool little kids but my oh my they are hard on stuff.

All the moms sat around talking about babies and pregnancy, Joy and I talked about making babies the vinyl way. It was a really good playdate that lasted a looooong time.

Reborns are gonna be around forever. Kids love them, grown ups love them.

No way, woman you are a good painter, you have skills, and you are creative. You could make a baby like mine but why would you? Use your super powers to do something better. Am I remembering wrong or did you totally rock and Avatar and were you the one who made the Gabriell with auburn-red hair?

Thank you. Yes, those are babies from my 1st year of reborning.
