Cluless Customer

Just had email convo with potential customer . Wanted full body baby, went into details about everything, blah blah. She then asks for discount. Then asks to trade her used baby, then says a custom baby is not worth price.
Ok, i say I base on time, materials, quality sorry you think its not worth it.
Of course she goes on and on, cant figure out why its insulting.
Perhaps shes better suited for walmart doll.
Are people really that clueless as to what goes into our babies??? Who needs business from customers like that?

Yes, they are. They donā€™t have any idea of the cost of supplies and the time involved.

I have someone wants a reborn for 50. No way

Oh, she really thought i wanted her used baby. Asked for $100 discount, then said she wasnt ready to pay now. It was her ā€œdream babyā€ though. Time waster plus insulting!!
Sorry for rantšŸ˜

Some people just want to get a bargain. They do not care how much the materials cost, or how much time we spend on it, they will just try their luck. I had person emailing me about doll listed for $400 and saying; ā€œconsidering that she has been on eBay for few weeks and nobody bought her, you would be wise to accept my offer of $75ā€!!! LOL Funny, before this email I was actually thinking of putting the price down little bit (like $375), but after this email I left it, and she sold about week later. I felt very smug

But it is not just dolls, recently I was selling pair of huge garden pots - about 24"across he top. They were about $400 each when new, and they are in great condition, no cracks or significant damage, they just do not quite go with my new garden. I priced them for $30 the pair and I had several people asking how much would I accept! i mean that is $15 per pot! Anyway in the end I put them up to $60 and let somebody to talk me down to $45 - bet they felt pleased with themselves LOL

We call them ā€˜Tire Kickersā€™ here in Ozā€¦There are lots of them aroundā€¦I always just refer them to my websiteā€¦lol I get emails all the time from people who see my dolls on pintrest and other places on the net and they ask things like - ā€œHow much is the baby boyā€- That is the complete email - no name - no hello - no kiss my foot - nothing?ā€™ So Iā€™m like ā€œWhat baby boy???ā€ Iā€™ve made a few of them over the last 7 years - just went past my 7 year reborning anniversary on the 4th of this month woohoooooo (Sorry I got side trackedā€¦) I just politely respond with an email that refers them to my website and tell them to let me know if they need further assistanceā€¦the ā€˜Tire Kickersā€™ disappear and the ones who turn into real customers come back with a more detailed emailā€¦

Sounds like you got the more ā€˜dangerous onesā€™ā€™ - the ones who know just enough about reborns to tell you what they want but not enough to pay for itā€¦sometimes a little knowledge is worse than complete ignoranceā€¦definitely more offensiveā€¦

Starr, you have me beat!! In Dec. It will be six years for me. Just annoyed at the fact she could not understand why it is insulting. Had to thoroughly explain it to her ā€¦lol.
Plus, she must be familiar with reborns, she wanted to trade hers that she has(another pet peve of mine).
Some people werent raised with manners. It all me,me,meā€¦what can i get???

I agree, I wonā€™t do customs either. Iā€™ll make and list a doll at my leisure. Donā€™t need the headaches for sure.
I work in the hospitality industry and believe me some people just leave you wondering how the heck they get through life! (Iā€™m left with a stunned look and shaking my head.) No wonder I hibernate with my doll kits on my days off. Lol

Soooo right there with you on that oneā€¦I did retail management for over 24 years and wellā€¦weā€™ll just just say ā€œSome mothers do have themā€¦ā€ Love my little cottage in the countryā€¦I think I could almost become a hermit-tess and love itā€¦heehee

Happy Reborning Anniversaryā€¦early!

Itā€™s much harder way down under here in New Zealand as everything has to be imported. I purchased one of the daily cheap kits on here, for like $16 it still cost me $150 NZ to get it here. It costs almost $200 to get in a Realborn kit. Thatā€™s the cost of just the kit and body nothing else. Typically it costs around $200 just for a standard kit. Selling a reborn for $250 would mean a loss to me.

That is so me! One of the reasons why I work nights. My ā€œreport cardā€ on life reads, ā€œDoes not play well with others.ā€ Itā€™s taken me a long time to realize that people just irritate me. During the day, itā€™s just me and my dogs. Love it!!

I get these types of messages recently, little bit anoying when its 2 am in the morning and my cell alerts me to a fb message. Grrr. The ones that make me think hummm are the ones that message back and forth multiple times and work out details only to come back later and say they got someone to make it for $100. Lol good luck with that cause i cant go that low.

OMG! Thought it was bad here in Aus. but you win this one. Just wondering where you buy your kits from then?

Iā€™ve purchased from numerous places pretty much the same no matter where I buy from. Iā€™ve purchased from supplies in Australia, from Bountiful Baby, Marita Winters, MacPhersons. Itā€™s so annoying what starts out as a really cheap deal under $20US still costs me round $150 for the kit and body. I just purchased a Tavi from an Australian buyer it still cost me $200 for the kit and body only.
