Hi everyone! Now that it’s nearing Christmas, have you noticed your sales have picked up? I saw a recent post on reborns com about how people are now struggling to sell their dolls. It’s scary. This entire year has been super slow for me. I have a bunch of kits left and am hoping to list some dolls for Christmas. If it continues to be slow, I’m done! I think the fakes and the people promoting the fakes has been destroying our art. Of course, the economy doesn’t help.
It’s not just the fakes. The number of reborn artists has hugely increased resulting in way more competition.
Very true!
I personally think the biggest problem right now is that the economy is so bad that collectors are selling their dolls. So the market is flooded with really cheap, extremely high quality dolls. Like this. How can we compete with this quality at this price? And every day I see posts like this.
I had not really thought about that, but you’re right! I’ve been seeing a lot of people selling their high end reborns and silicone babies, too.
People are struggling financially. My drug coverage is going from $34 to $80 per month in one jump-57% increase. I’m trying to find something less expensive and I can’t. They’re all more. Everything else is going up, too. I think it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better, if it ever does. I do have hope, though. In all the years I’ve been reborning I’ve never sold a baby during the holidays. Not once.
Good one!
There is hope ladies! I just renewed my membership today after being away for a few months…I sold one!
Edited to add…I hope that didn’t sound braggy.
I get the medication thing-----one of mine went from $94 to $200, I almost had a coronary. I have to have it. It so sucks!!
My increase is the monthly premium. Do you have to pay for your drugs? Don’t you have Part D?
Nope. I’m happy for you. I haven’t listed in awhile either, but I’m getting ready to. I hope at least one of mine sells that fast.
Christmas picked up for me. I’m down to one left for sale. I’m done painting until after Christmas, although I jut got word that Edith is on her way. I may have to casually work on her when I have time, but not for a Christmas sale.
I sold one recently but I haven’t been able to reduce my stock a lot after my reborn show last May. I used to sell them faster, now they piled up. I have not painted a lot this year (except for the show) and I miss it but I can’t continue to paint and sell so little.
Same here. I sold a few dolls over the Summer and one in October. I can’t afford the supplies anymore if they are going to rarely sell.
That is crazy! I keep thinking when will these price increases stop. My car insurance has gone up again. I’m trying to finish a degree in software engineering but now people are saying people in tech with way more experience than me are now struggling to find work. It’s depressing.
That’s awesome! That gives me hope. I’ve got a John John listed on reborns right now. I’ll be happy if I get one or two sold by Christmas. Mine have been taking months to sell. I get a lot more messages from people asking me to lower my prices drastically.
I hope things pick up for us all. This art is therapeutic for many of us. A great way to relieve stress. It would be sad to lose it.
My Reborns pricing observation: Christmas time brings many more artists with low priced dolls, thus - competition. So now, if your doll is priced $350 or under - it will sell in a day or two, over that - it will sit.
I add lots of dolls as ‘my favorites’ just for the price observation.
Mine have been sitting for literally months up to a year. I’ve lowered the prices now because I don’t have room for them anymore.
