Canada Shipping help!

Has anyone ever shipped from US to Canada and if so is there a customs charges and about what does it cost just average.

I have, make sure you mark it as a gift and at a low cost if that is possible. Depending on the weight or if you can ship priority box? Can run as much as much as 70.00 but as low as 20.00.

They charge randomly …but they charge even for the shipping amount not only the value of the parcel…

Ok…so you are in the US looking to ship to Canada and want to know if your customer will have to pay duty on the shipment of a REBORN Doll, I am assuming…??

If it is that, yes, usually duty can be charged …depending on the value of the shipment…but many times sellers mark a trivial al amount and that the shipment is going as a gift…then the buyer does not have to pay any duty.

One thing though, when I shipped a Doll to Belgium recently I insured th e shipment, and had to insure for a certain amount …my customer ended up having to pay duty in Belgium…I felt badly but felt also that insurance was important…and my customer was kind and stated that even though she had to pay extra, she was very happy to have the beautiful Doll…so I was breathing a sigh of relief.

Hope that helped.

Yes a lady in Canada is wanting to buy a baby from me but I have never shipped anywhere but US so I am wondering what the extra costs involved are? Is this something I will have to pay on my end or her’s?

She’ll have to pay, not you.

That"s fine but she is also new to ordering reborns so I was hoping to be able to give her info on what it might cost for the fees she will have to pay. Thanks so much for the help

The actual duty is calculated on the value of the merchandise… I am not sure as to the exact amount if she does have to pay…I often order, or should say ordered, from the US and it seems to be hit or miss with duty…Are you going to insure the package…??.. I always insure my shipments just in case something happens…so farThank God, nothing has happened…but if you are not planning on insuring then you could mark a trivial amount and she will not have to pay any duty.

I was planing on having Insurance but hate that it will cost her more. Something I will have to think about I need a sale but maybe I can just offer up a name of someone in Canada that can make a new baby for her so she won’t be out as much money that way.

Why don’t you contact your post office and see what they say…!!..Keep your customer cause it is your Doll that she wantsto buy…I always end up paying duty casuse I have to…never stopped me from buying though…right nowI am not buying because I have put my wallet on a diet and have a lot of inventory plus our Canadian dollar is too low …hoping your post office can give you an idea about how much duty your customer will have to pay…and remember, it does seem to be hit and miss…!!..

I have been hearing a few of you all talking about the Canadian dollar being low, so that makes me fill even worse knowing that there are other members from Canada that could make a baby for her and not cost as much. I will check with post office tomorrow before I decide. I just hate seeing her spend so much over what she could get at home for less.

I ship frequently to a client in Canada. If you mark it as a gift there is no customs charge. A newborn size baby averages $70 priority shipping. They usually get it in about 7-10 days.

I wonder if it has anything to do with which way it is being mailed. The least I have ever been able to mail one was $52 and it was a preemie.

I was told for a 7 lb box it would be $65

That is what mine usually are to Canada from Missouri.

Even if it’s marked gift the recipient often has to pay fees. The buyer should know and expect this, but if not: mark the item as a toy! Toys get little to no customs fees. However, she will likely have to pay HST tax on the item which is 13% of the value marked and often a $10-20 processing fee. If it’s marked as a collectible or other type item there could be actual Customs fees as well. If you choose to mark down the value it is technically illegal (no judging) just so you know, and if insurance kicks in you would only be reimbursed for the amount claimed. Some customizers claim just the cost of the base doll to skirt around the rules.
