The eye sockets aren’t deep at all so I dont want to cut the whole back of the eye out.
I cut an x and removed 1 of the “fourths” to try to make an opening to start sliding the eye in…but i can’t manage to hold the eye and put pressure on and move one of the flaps from the front all at the same time.
I tried both full glass eye and also a flat back I have.
I use 12" forceps to put the eyes in bigger babies. My fingers aren’t long enough, either. I hold the eye near the socket with the forceps and use the handle of a small paintbrush to push the socket flap in and ease the eye up under it. It’s a little tricky and works best with half round acrylic eyes because there’s something to grab onto with the forceps.
If I recall that was one of my mess-ed ups with Irresistibles varnish when I went through the front. I ended up going through the back, cut too much off and had to use a pair of glass flat back oval eyes. Since she is staying here, I don’t mind that she is “wonky” eyed. You are right there isn’t much to work with.
I don’t recall having any issues with inserting her eyes. I have some forceps I use if I can’t reach. I believe I cut the flap completely off the back of eye socket, put an eye in and lay the head face down. Drizzled some E600 around the back of eye with my long wood qtips. I wait an hour so the glue starts to set but you can still move eye to better position. Then I repeat for other eye after 1st one is completely set & dry.
