So, I’m not done rooting my AD doll yet but I bought better supplies for painting tin silicone. I have another premie AD I’m thinking about painting. I REALLY want a Linda Murray Chloe kit in silicone. I’m terrified I’ll try to paint her and end up with the equivalent of a “cake wreck” and not like her. I really love some of the silicone babies I saw on reborns.com but they are, of course, already sold. If I buy a Chloe kit, I won’t have enough money left to buy a silicone that is already done. I also don’t want a full body silicone, I want a kit so I can have the clothe body still.
If you had to choose, paint your own or buy someone else’s beautiful baby, what would you choose? Is painting babies like most other art in that you are very self critical?
I don’t know why this is such a hard choice…

Why are you wanting to paint tin silicone? From what I have heard, the tin silicone falls apart.

I do believe she has told me that the AD dolls are made of the tin silicone.

Maybe even just a silicone practice face like they have on Baltic Baby. @DollChick think they are around $30-$40. Macpherson’s has some silicone painting kits too with practice faces .
On another note, I personally would prefer to buy an already painted silicone…with rooted hair

I got a few Ashton Drake dolls and decided to fix one of them. They are made from tin cured silicone. The hair was awful and I figured since he won’t last very long it wouldn’t be too horrible if he ended up bald. Then I decided to fix his weird corpse like face. The silicone one I was working with is an RTV1 though and very difficult to use. Now I can’t decide if I want to paint my own platinum baby or not. I don’t think I absolutely ruined my AD doll but he was $200, that Chloe kit is $800. Besides all of that, I’m sure my kids will be happy to mold something with the smooth on stuff after I’m done. The thinner and pigments can be used with tin or platinum.
The hair certainly is a long process! I have the top and half of a side done on the one I started like a week ago. I have definitely figured out why rooted hair costs so much more on a well done baby.
I appreciate everyone’s replies. Thank you!
