How much should i list them for. I havent started painting yet
No way for us to answer that without seeing your work. Some artists make $1000+ dolls right from the beginning. Other artists paint for 15 years and never get above $300 level dolls. Time is irrelevant. It’s the skill that determines the price.
Expect to take a loss in the beginning depending on your skill level…definitely not a get rich quick kind of thing.
I would start painting first and see how it goes before thinking about selling. You will probably keep your first few. You may find it more difficult than you think. I don’t want to discourage you, some artists are very good at the start. I have made several before I had one worth selling.
It really depends on your skills. Some people paint something that’s worth selling at their first try, others can’t even sell their first because it’s just not that good.
Remember that this is a fun hobby, but it’s usually not profitable. Expect to take a loss at first.
Also, I’d keep that first baby! If you keep up the hobby it’s fun to see how far you came a few years later.
I’ve painted for going on six years now and tend to get 300-500 out of my dolls(will include some pics for reference). As a beginner, I would be happy if I broke even. Especially with how bad the market is
I sold my early babies for $185.00… I painted and gifted my first 7 babies. Now, 12+ years later, I sell for $700 to $900.00 with rooted hair. Based on the time spent painting and rooting them, I make about $10.00 an hour… Definitely a hobby for me.
My personal opinion- painting reborns doesn’t start out with the intention of making money. It’s more of a curiosity, passion and creative standpoint. Then after you acquire confidence, skill, and experience share your talent with others while making a few bucks.
I’m not even sure how one could consider selling something they haven’t even made yet. No way to know if it is something you’ll even be remotely talented doing.
I have a few kits that i have gotten for practice and i dont need all of them as dolls for myself which was why i was asking
I didnt list anything until after my 10th doll. It was for a swap here on the forum and only after positive feedback from other artists. That was 9 years ago. I think I listed in the $200 range.
I now list anywhere from $250 - $800 and some sit for years. It all completely varies for me. lol
I am working on my 204th doll
What did you do with your first ones?
My kids, friends’ kids, gifted to a pre-k teacher, swaps, etc.
