Anybody just paint for themselves?

This is what I’m looking to do, since it would be the most economical way of getting the babies that I want. Anybody else do this?

I do this. I look at any sculpt I paint as a potential keeper because it can sometimes take a while to sell a baby in a certain price range. I keep the ones that I end up instantly bonding with. Some stay for a little while before I am ready for them to go. I do limited customs (ethnicity, hair, eyecolor) and I take requests for babies someone would like to see for sale, but I paint them my way to my liking. Back when BB was having all these gigantic sales where the older kits were $25 to $27, I was buying them specifically to sell as budget babies.

I only paint for myself. I have never intended to do it any other way. If I get too over run with completed dolls, I may have to try to sell some in order to be able to live in my house! LOL But, not now.

I totally agree with this if you only want a couple.

As of right now, I’m only painting for myself and thoroughly enjoying it. As much as I’ve spent on paint and the few kits I have, I could’ve gotten a really nice doll from a reputable artist. But, where’s the fun in that? I find it much more rewarding creating them myself.

Okay, I’m not sure how popular this is but I always sell what I’ve painted and save up for my own favorites to be done by another artist.
It’s not that I don’t like my own work. I’m pretty pleased with my progress. but there’s certain things I can’t do… like root hair ect ect. Like, I really want a Phoenix someday, so I’m working with my own skills and selling what I do so that eventually I’ll get another artist to create him for me.

I think that sounds like a wonderful plan. It gets you where you want to be.

I mainly do that. I paint what I like or want and if I don’t really end up bonding with them, I’ll sell them.

I paint for myself and family. I have painted for presents for my sisters and sister inlaw and my daughter and daughter inlaws and all of my grandchildren. The grands have at least 3 each. Made for mostly Christmas presents Then I painted one for my sister again for cost of material and my sister in law for same. I paint because I enjoy bringing a kit to life

I paint for myself as a hobby to relieve my stress. It is addictive because I want to paint every baby. It is fun. If you are just wanting a couple of babies, looking at cost of kits, supplies and your time, it would be more cost effective to buy from a reputable artist.

This made me sad lol

I keep the ones I don’t like cause I feel bad for them that no one else will like them either :rofl::rofl:

It is so funny to realize how true this is now. I’m afraid to add up how much I’ve spent on supplies. It’s over $1000 for sure. I could have probably bought a prototype for what I’ve spent. Or a really nice silicone.

I do love the creating part though :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: and watching them start to come alive and develop personalities.

Me too. It is expensive. I have purchased 5 babies. I need to have something to do now. It is a lot of fun to bring them to life.

I paint for myself. That way I know exactly what I am getting at the end :joy:

@PhotographyForLife I had to throw Miles head away as I cut his face, then I started using him as a test head. I still have his limbs though. I give the ones I don’t like away gift or not, lol.
