Angora Mohtique quality failing?

Hi ladies.

I wanted thoughts on this.
Recently I purchased some Angora mohtique mohair, and it is dry, brittle, lacking any shine or curl.
I normally purchase from her and am never, until now, unhappy with the hair.

I feel mislead.
I ordered black with a curl, and it showed beautiful shiny locks.
I recieved slightly wavy with more red and brown than black.

I emailed them, but I wanted to warn fellow artists.
I feel badly recommending them now.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

That doesn’t look like the picture. Perhaps they sent you the wrong one, or there was a bad batch?

I suppose that’'s possible. I’m just shocked by this.
I paid 35$ and shipping for this.
I’m hoping they will do something, as I am on a limited income and used my last spending money for the month on this, so I can’t buy anymore. :frowning:

I would ask for an exchange. I use this mohair quite often and love it. I would think they would be happy to exchange it for you. If not, well, you won’t be back.

I have frequently also recommended them, I used them previously also and loved every single batch. They will be more than happy to help you with that. Just contact them exactly like you did here… I am pretty sure they will resend… :grinning:

I emailed them, and haven’t heard back, but I don’t expect to for a day or so. A lot of people aren’t on the computer all the time.

I am hopeful they will fix this, because I honestly think this is just a bad batch. I’ve ordered from them SO many times and never had this happen.

I will update when I know what they are going to to do.

Only because I think it’s important fellow artists are informed of this kind of thing.

I have been buying from them for 8 years and never had a bad batch. The mohair I get always looks exactly as the photo. Was it wrapped in individual small lots in tissue paper the way they usually do it? Are all the lots the same?

I wonder if they could have gone away leaving somebody else to take care of the business, or if they now employ people. I cannot imagine how would they miss something like this, unless it is just a one strand that got mixed in accidentally.

It was wrapped in tissue just like they always do. When I first saw it, I thought maybe I could condition it once it was rooted. So I snipped off a small section and tried to root it.
It’s wiry when rooted, and not soft. I thought maybe I rooted the wrong direction, but no. It feels rough no matter the direction.
and it didn’t come in the several glossy locks that I normally get. It’s all one large section.

It could be that they hired someone and they let this go through.
I’ve ordered from them before myself and never had this issue.

When I buy from Angora Mohtique it never comes in individual sections. It’s usually two sections separated by tissue paper. That’s wrapped in another piece of tissue and then bound by a colored piece of tissue. It’s never been tied either when ve ordered from there. Other than the color not matching the picture, the photo posted looks like what I’ve always gotten from them. I just ordered 2 batches last week (teal green and pale blond) for my mermaid and it was super soft. Although I often have lots of waste with AM mohair because I have a hard time separating the locks without some of the hair frizzing. Both colors rooted beautifully for me, though. It’s the mohair from Angela’s Premium Mohair that comes in small glossy batches. I hardly ever have any waste from them. That’s my personal favorite place to get mohair from.

What I recieved is dry and brittle and more brown and red than black.
The picture above is exactly how it came. I just unwrapped the tissue and took the picture.
Not to mention the fact that it is not even curly.

I have ordered from them before and got hair like the top picture. Wrapped in tissue and in seperated locks like the picture above. It’s never been tied or anything.

Fact is, this does not match the picture of what I purchased.

I’ve only ever purchased from them, so I’m not confusing them with someone else.

What I’ve learned from processing mohair is that raw hair varies a lot from goat to goat as far as quality, softness, and sheen are concerned. It also takes dye differently. There is no way to produce high quality doll hair from a low quality raw product. No amount of conditioner will make it better, and good quality raw hair doesn’t even really need conditioner (I still use it for the nice scent!)

I wonder if the photo was a stock photo of that particular color, and the one you received used the same color dye but turned out different? Or the photos or batch of hair just got mixed up? Still an oversight on shipping what’s depicted, but probably an honest one. I’ve only heard good things about Angora Mohtique.

I’ll probably make a mistake at some point in the mohair biz, and I’ll do whatever it takes to rectify it. I’m sure they will too  Good luck!

Oh in no way do I think this was intentionally sent out like this. I just want people to be aware of the issue so they don’t get stuck with bad mohair.
I’m hopeful Angora Mohtique will make it right. I haven’t heard from them, but I hope I do sometime in the next few days.

I suppose there’s no point in conditioning it. Of course I’m not touching it until I hear back anyway. I can’t use this on my AA Asher twins like I wanted to. It’s far too red with no curl.

Are you sure you bought from Mohtique? I just saw this on their website:
"Made only in the state of California in the United States of America!

Please note that this mohair is all grown right here and hand made at the very same farm the angoras live. If you see sites advertising to be us in other countries, it is fake! This is not manufactured in a large commercial building, it’s all proudly made with care in the tranquility of home."

Could you possibly accidentally bought from the fake site? I am quite sure they do not use stock photos; you are buying particular lot that is in the photo. Can you see where was the hair sent from?

They sell them by 1/4oz lots, and each 1/4 usually comes in 2 parts with piece of tissue between them, and then all wrapped in folded tissue. I usually buy at least an oz, more if they have it in that one lot, an therefore I get it separated into 8 parts and it always looked exactly like the photo.

no, there is no point conditioning it, as Rainbowbabies said, you cannot make bad quality mohair good. Just allow some time for response; they may be away. I am sure they will refund/replace. Their reputation is worth more than one bit of bad mohair.

It looks just like their normal packaging and receipt.

I think it was just a bad dye.
I am sure they will fix it. They are very nice. One of my orders got lost in the mail and they sent me an extra 1/4 oz with my next order to make up for it even though it showed delivered on the tracking. My mail lady never figured out if she mis-delivered it or what. (Even came to my door to talk to me about it, after I submitted a lost package email)

Oddly I sent 2 emails and haven’t heard back.
I’m waiting till the middle of next week or so to email them again, since I know a lot of people are out of town for the eclipse.
Still I am shocked no one has contacted me. and now I’m stuck with crappy mohair and can’t finish my dolls.

Are you in the USA? I may have some left over … I will have to check…

I am. I live in GA.
I really need curly black mohair.
But I don’t want to send a bunch of emails and seem like I’m being annoying, so I will just wait till Tuesday or Wednesday next week to contact them again.
