Almost at the finish line

I was nearing the finish line of painting this kit. Then this happened. I had trouble from the start with this kit. I’ve done 2 bountiful babies in a dark skintone, using the Gemini thinning meduim. I believe this is German vinyl. The thinning meduim was sticking to the cloth in the oven. The kit was very shiny. I started on Gracie Mae, it was sticking to cloth as well. I even let it flash off over night. So my next kit I’m gonna try the irresistibas thinning meduim. He was gonna be a boo boo baby due to the vinyl having some fuzz on it. I guess eventually, I’ll make a cuddle baby with the head.

Oh, no! That’s just a disaster. It would be a cute cuddle baby, though.

Oh goodness. Were the limbs hanging while hot?

How disappointing! It sounds like the oven was possibly too hot or parts left in too long. Also, I have found that I can heat set my parts in the oven on a wooden peg rack so they don’t stick to the cloth but then you need to immediately move them to a soft cloth to cool so that they do not bend/conform on the pegs leaving poked up spots or in this case split from their weight.

As far as using another brand of thinner, I have found that the IRHSP Liquithin is very sticky and it never totally flashes off. Pretty much all the newer products today have some attributes such as this. Thinning any brand of them with some solvent added into the thinners helps a lot IMO. I always mix some Citrus thinner in with my Gemini or Exodus thinning oils.

No, it happened in the oven. It was bent tho.

It was in the oven. When I went to take it out the next day, that’s how it was.

I was doing 270 for 10 min. Thank you for the suggestion with the thinners.

Maybe do not leave parts in the oven to cool and if that doesn’t help back that time down to 9 mins.

I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks

How did you have in in the oven? Was it laying?

Yes, it was laying up against the dome.

I think that may be the issue, if it was touching hot plastic or glass it would be too much heat absorption on the vinyl where it touches. I have a liner for my oven but before that I used cloth diapers and made sure everything the vinyls touch is covered in cloth so that nothing is laying against my metal ring or any plastic. I also have 2 rings to use for when parts are larger so that the dome sits above it all and the parts can not touch it.

I have towels in the oven covering the ring.
