Air dry varnish crisis, please help

Hi, I was reading the posts about the newer formula of Americana soft touch formula peeling over time.

Can anyone recommend an air dry soft varnish that won’t peel?

Maybe something that can also be mixed with the cornstarch and still go over heat set or air dry paint.

Thank you😊

Has anyone tried the Duraclear Ultra Matte varnish to see if it changed? I have added corn starch water to it in the past. I no longer paint with anything air dry so I am not using any of these products now.

I’ve used the DuraClear Ultra Matte Varnish over air dry. It’s very matte, but not UV protective.

I did a few weeks ago, it had a lot of cracking, but no peeling. I am going to let it sit a few months to be sure though.

I don’t think any of the air dry matte varnishes are the same as they were before COVID shut down and the loss of the availability of matting agents they used to use. I still have some of the old Golden Polymer Matte Varnish on hand for touch ups thank goodness.

How has it held up?

I use this straight from the jar and I like it, I haven’t noticed any bad effects so far.

There is a slight sheen still, but if you look at skin it isn’t super matte, there is a slight sheen to it. So I think it looks realistic.

I just took a look at my test plate and it still hasn’t peeled or anything but I personally wouldn’t use it due to the cracking issues I had with it. I just bent the belly plate to see if the original cracking was due to it not being cured end, but it still cracks.

Maybe that explains why I had some peeling spots on a couple kits. Small circular patches.
