Can air dry gliss be tinted? Will it ever cure enough so it isn’t tacky when touched?
Yes, I have tinted mine with success, no stickiness.
Absolutely I almost always tint my varnish. Matter of fact, I have a jar of tinted varnish and one not tinted
What color are you tinting the varnish? Also, can Golden air dry matte be used over GHSP?
Here is a hint for you all. Some of the air dry varnishes do not stick well over Genesis paints and will peel up easily over time. I now prime all my lips, regardless of paint I used, with Delta Ceramcoat All Purpose Sealer. This makes the surface so the varnish will stick. However, this alone has enough sheen to it that often I do not need to go over it with varnish unless I am just wanting a more wet look.
This has been my go to for years and years.
What type of color would work best to tint the varnish? I used Genesis heat set on the whole kit, and now I’m attempting to finish the lips and nails with air dry.
I create a peachy pink tinted varnish. I paint with air dry and use DecoArt Soft-Touch Varnish. Here’s a picture of my tinted varnish.
I got the idea to tint my varnish from Kim at Custom Doll Baby. She calls it her “secret sauce”. Here’s a video showing how she mixes and applies her varnish.
@anjsmiles how sweet of you to share that secret! Thanks.
@Summer Thank you for pointing us in the right direction. Maybe I can get a texture on my dolls now bookmarking and fingers crossed.
@Sheree56 I tint my varnish with the color I used for that particular doll, brown, green etc…
I follow Kim too. I believe her secret sause is made entirely of Genesis heat set products. I just wanted to know if air dry gloss varnish can be tinted, what type and brand paint should I use to tint it for the lips and nails? Everything else is done.
Oh, I don’t tint my gloss. I don’t think you can mix air dry paint with genesis paint though…
I always paint my lips in several thin layers while painting my doll and my nails reach the color I want just by adding base layers and some washes. I then tip my nails, add a little shading, and sometimes do half moons.
I have never thought if tinting my gloss! Let’s us know if it works out!
I had bought some tinted gloss from one of the reborn shops (I think Hunnybuns) but, I didn’t like it. I like blending colors on my lips and nails. I ended up selling the tinted gloss with a supply lot a while back.
@Summer I have some of that too it is too pinky, but may work for some.
I felt like the one I had was too much of a red-orangish color… I like a more flesh tone for my nail beds. I use Kim’s technique for my nails
