Hello all my name is Tonya Mae, I’m 44 & became a grandma @ the young age of 34 !! I now have 2 granddaughters that r 5 yrs. old , I now feel like I have an excuse 2 love & play with babies, if u need one lol…I’ve bought 4 kits & all the supplies I need 2 get started but haven’t done it yet, a bit nervous 2 say the least ,I’m brand new @ this reborn doll thing but I’ve always loved dolls, guess that came from my grandmother, when I was a child she had 4-6 55 gal. barrels full of dolls she would spruce up, comb their hair, new clothes etc. & I was right by her side, when she passed I got all of her porcelain dolls ! Anyhow all I’ve done is 2 prepainted Kiwi kits 4 both granddaughters 4 Christmas & they LOVED them, I trimmed their hair, glued in magnets 4 a binky & bow, weighted the body & added baby powder wafers, glued on eyelashes as well so no painting of any kind which brings me 2 y I’m here…I want 2 add paint & root the Fawn piglet kit & don’t know where 2 start…what do I do 1st to prep the kit ? Do I have 2 remove a varnish 1st ? I’m gonna use Fx Air Dry Paints, or do I just start painting then seal & varnish it when I’m done. I obviously have no idea what I’m doin so any & all help would b much appreciated !! Thank u in advance !
Welcome! I have not done that but am sure someone will be along to help you.
Thank u !! I love your Grinch baby !!
Thank you, very much!
Hello! I use genesis paint, I have only added paint to the Thistle piglet kit. I have done it twice with absolutely no issues. I didn’t do anything to prep just added paint baked and then rooted him. Not sure if that helps you…
Great 2 hear, no prep but I wonder if the air dry paint will work the same way ?? Anyone…
Welcome Tonya. I would suggest if you want to use ‘air dry’ paint that you go to and join The Reborn Connection for air dry painting. Angie of Lil Dumplins Nursery is an absolute genius when it comes to the knowledge of air dry painting. She has videos, files, and more information that you can absorb. Go join, she is available to answer questions. She would be the one to help with everything Air Dry!! Good Luck. @Tonyamae
For air dry, you’ll likely have to seal the kit first before you start painting. I’m not sure what the factory painted kits are painted with, but the paint may not stick that well if you don’t varnish first.
Thank u ! Any more ideas ?
I wash the kit first, just like I do with a blank kit. GHSP goes well just on top, But I know you said that you’ll use air dry.
