A sculpting question

I’m about to start working on a sculpt that I hope to have produced as a silicone…I wanted to make an open eyed sculpt but don’t have any eyes…can’t I just sculpt the eyes in clay and then if the baby is made into silicone have them cut out? Hope what I’m asking makes sense :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, you can do that…I have seen it done several times and unless you are doing the baby as a OOAK open eyed clay sculpt that would be fine…

Good to know! Thank you dear Starr

I read somewhere that you could make the shape of the eyes first and bake them. That way they will be hard and wont smoosh while your smoothing and working the clay trying to get facial features.

You are very welcome

That is true…and it works well…you can make clay, flat back blanks in 20mm, 22mm etc and insert them as if they are eyes and shape your upper and lower lids around the blank…

Here is something you can use these to mold the eye blank…

.

just make sure you use the end with the hole in the top so that you can push the clay out once you make it (you can use a toothpick, etc)

…also you will want to use a bit of talc powder or something similar to keep it from sticking to the mold…
