Sugar in the making~
Love that little face! Looking good!
Coming along nicely. Good work.
Deb, she is moving right along, looking really good. Love your veining on her forhead, I do that on my dolls too. Great Job, can’t wait to see her all fininshed. Are you rooting her?
She is looking great!
Thanks Karen, shes been a tough one. She just kept sucking up the paint. Didnt think I would get her to this point but we got there. LOL!!
@otterbaby2, Lynn and Rainbow, thanks so much. I still have a little bit left to do but getting there. Lynn I am debating still on rooting her hair. I really like Sugar with barely hair to bald. So I may paint it lightly or a very light rooting. Once I get her to that point I will set her down and stew over it. LOL!!!
I think the newer kits are taking more paint than the older ones. I am in the process of painting Aubrey and Avery. Aubrey was a kit that I have had for over a year (maybe close to 2 years) and Avery was just received. The kits were not the same color so were brought to a close match before I started. I was doing exactly the same colors on each kit and Aubrey (older vinyl) is taking color so much better. Avery has at least 3 extra washes and mottles and is still a bit “off”. I have a long way to go before I am ready for any details, but Avery is definitely presenting a challenge like your little Sugar. I like her with just a touch of hair too because she looks pretty new to me!
Anita, thank you so much. I do paint my veins. I have a brush that has 2 hairs in it strickly for that. Its a step I always dread but I love the effect. After I paint it on I let it flash off then take a sponge and pounce it to lighten it up before baking.
Pia, glad to know your fighting the same battle. LOL!!! I kept thinking is it me or what. I kept adding layers and finally she started coming to life. Your babies are looking good as well. I lost track of all my layers cause as soon as I did them and baked it seemed to be gone. So kept adding. LOL!! Your seeing the same thing with the head on Sugar I am seeing. (Bald is beautiful~ LOL!!! Anxious to see your babies when done. Hope they stop being so stubborn for ya.
The same thing was happening with Caleb. No matter how many times I blushed him,It would disappear after he was baked. His veins disappeared too, Which was okay because I messed them up lol
LOL!!! It worked out well in your favor. The next one you do might be different and takes the paint well without sucking it up. So continue to keep it thin.
Definitely! I have Elsie and Asher both waiting to be painted.
I am laughing cause you are so hooked already!
I am! I’ve had Asher and Caleb’s new names picked out for a couple months now. Elsie was a surprise so she’s nameless for now
Hey! I’m doing “Sugar” too. Mine has been absorbing all my mottle on the arms and legs. The face wasn’t so bad. I’m playing with powders and the same vinyl that doesn’t want to hold onto the paint, grabs the powder and makes all the reds too dark. I’m having fun though. Sugar has such a cute face. I haven’t had time to work on her today. It was church the a.m. and lunch with my kids, and now we are preparing for my daughter to move out. She’s going to Colorado to live in her own apartment with her half sister. She’s leaving tonight. Anyway, TMI, but I haven’t been able to reborn today at all.
Did you keep track of all the layers? I lost count. I just kept going til she started to gain some personaility. Sugar and Honey are two of my favorite kits. Your so right about Sugars face, shes so cute. So you have one getting ready to fly from the nest. Thats hard. I have been through it with my son but in 2 years it will be my daughter. Makes me sad to even think about it. Makes me sad for you as well.
Ok…I have to add my 2 cents on the subject of the vinyl sucking up the paint. I started on Kase while on vacation. He looked a little pale to begin with but after 8 layers of different colored washes he’s finally looking like he has some color. Is it just me?
I never keep track of layers. I always list them as multiple layers because I have no idea how many…
Yeah, this is my second round of kids growing up and leaving. I had a baby after my big kids had left home. I was 48. So then we adopted three more, one from Kazakhstan and two from Ethiopia. My Ethiopian daughter is moving to Colorado with her half sister. There’s a lot more to the story, but it’s not for this venue. Anyway, I’m going to miss her terribly but I’ve done this all before. And my older daughter is sitting here right now with the nice young man who is probably going to take her away from us before long. No wonder I make babies. It’s the only way you get to keep them.
Melanie, I haven’t had the chance to start my Kase yet but above Pia stated it seems the new kits are taking on alot of paint. They changed the vinyl so its not you in the least. Just keep the battle going. Sounds like your getting there if hes coming to life. The battle will be won! LOL !!!
