Why am I sooooo slow! :)

How long does it take everyone to complete a baby rooting included? I have some woman on my facebook that will announce they are starting a new baby…BOOM…a few days later baby is complete! I am sooooo slow. It take me almost 2 weeks just to root the head!!! I buy kits and they just keep piling up. I’m going to have to have an addition built on my house for all the kits…lol

Hey don’t worry about the slow thing, I am exactly the same, I totally understand how you feel about everyone getting their dolls done so quickly, specially the rooting. I’m with you, it takes me at least 2 weeks to root and I stay at it pretty constantly, though I haven’t been at this too long and have only rooted 3 heads so far. I am looking forward to being able to get that sparse rooting thing down. I love that look and always wind up with a bit too much hair for my liking. I wish I could build an addition for my dolls, wouldn’t that be the greatest thing. Keep going, we’ll make it someday!

It takes me about 20 hours to paint a kit (I count flash time, 8 minute bakes and cool time) in that number. The quickest I have ever rooted a head was Harley Hess in about 14 hours and the longest was almost 35 for my last Presley Asleep. It usually takes me around 20 hours!

I’m a very slow painter, takes me about a week to paint a kit and at least 2 days to paint the hair. Rooting…that’s another story…slow, slow, and SLOW. Been a long time since I rooted a head, though.

I have never understood how people can get a reborn done in just a couple of days.

Anyone who can finish a reborn in a few days must not have a job … Or, I guess they probably treat Reborning as their occupation. If you could work on a doll for 8-10 hours a day you could probably finish 1-2 a week. That would take way more discipline than I have though! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I’m retired, and I don’t have time to put more that 4 hours a day and not every day into reborning. If I’m lucky, it usually takes me a week to finish one.

I would love to be able to spend hours in a row working on babies, but I am lucky to get in 2-3 hours a day so it also takes me a week to paint one and then I usually only root in 2-3 hour sessions, so that takes a week or two at that rate. I started my 2 Presley’s on February 13th and finished painting and sealing on February 21st. Rooting took me until March 12th - so it took me one month for 2 babies and I was at it a bit more than my usual pace.

It takes me a while also with all the interruptions of work and life. I’m amazed also at people who can finish a doll fast. It’s a good thing I’m not in it for the money. I’d be very poor. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

There is no why I could complete a reborn in a few days and I’ve been doing them for 6yrs plus. The faster I try to go the more mistakes I make so I keep it slow and study. It takes me 3-7 days to paint and I don’t even bake because I use air dry paints. It takes me twice as long to root than it does to paint. Don’t worry about being slow. Just take your time and have fun.

I have a tendency to work steadily and then slack off for two or three days, or work on another project. I am home and have the time, but have many other irons in the fire so it takes me a long time. I’m putting about three hours a day in on Irelyn, and have a ways to go with the paints and powders before I will get to rooting. Rooting, at my pace, usually takes a couple weeks. If I root for too many hours in a row, my hands kill me and I hallucinate hair when I close my eyes. (Wierd, I know, but I’m not kidding.) I am not a prolific reborner, but I hope, someday, to be a good one.

Haha! When I take a break from rooting, I “see” hair strands everywhere. I’ve even dreamed about rooting.

Oh, I’m so glad you “see” hair. I thought I was a real freak!

I work a 40 hr week approx. so I don’t get too much time to work on the dolls, but I do prefer to go slow and get it right. I want to enjoy the process and make less mistakes as well. 20 to 30 hours to root and cut a head of hair. Oh and those little ‘sticky’ rollers are perfect for picking up pieces of hair that end up ‘everywhere’.

OMG! I thought I was a little loony. I see hairs too and dream I’m rooting.

I had a rooting dream too when I was rooting Molly LOL! It takes me forever too because of work and school. I don’t get but maybe 2 or 3 hours per week sometimes to devote to baby making. So yes it may take me a couple months to complete a doll LOL.

Since we’ve confessed a few strange dreams, the other day I dreamed my hubby and some of our friends went out and I took little Aubrey Pratt with us. I had her next to me in a car seat. All was well until she started moving and cooing. I remember thinking it was perfectly normal as I spoke back to her. Everyone was starng at me.

What’s with that?! :open_mouth:

You are lucky, Amy. You really got to see one of your reborns come to life. Lol! (I think we’re all right there with the crazy cat ladies!)

The mohair has a lot to do with it too. I’m using mohair from singerfalls she’s on eBay an omg what a difference. I’m moving right along with Owen. It’s been 2 weeks an im almost done. I better shut up im probably jinksing myself an will mess him up lol
