Very new to this

I am expecting my first reborn kit near the end of the. Week. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I have watched You Tube videos but the main question that I have is what was everyone’s experience as a first time reborn artist? How long did the process take? Did you feel overwhelmed? And were you happy with the results? Wish me luck! Thanks!

Good Luck, have fun and don’t stress over the first one.You will do fine. You didn’t say if you were using heat set or air dry.If you have not watched Customdollbaby.com,I highly recommend it as a easy to follow series.

Don’t worry, you’ll do fine. Your first baby may not come out exactly as you envision but it will be beautiful anyway. I would recommend you keep your first baby as a comparison to the others to follow, you’ll be so surprised at the improvement as you go along on your journey!! Congratulations on your first kit coming, don’t be overwhelmed we all started somewhere!! Ask questions if you have them, we’ve all been where you are and are more than willing to help in any way we can. Good Luck and watch out for the “reborn” addiction!!! We all have it.

Thank you for the information. I will use heat set although I will have to purchase the oven. I’m thinking Nuwave, according to my research.

Yes, I am a bit confused about the eyebrows and lashes. Are they rooted? I see that some lashes are glued on but I think I’ve seen that some were rooted. Thanks for the encouragement. Do you think that felting needles work better than rooting needles?

Nuwave or even a knock off brand similar to a nuwave works fine, just be sure it has an extender ring. The extender ring is needed to keep the heat from being too close to the vinyl.Knock offs can be purchased for around $30.I have used several types including Nuwave.I still use an oven thermometer to make sure the temperature is correct on any that I use.

Thanks!!

Felting needles and rooting needles are the same.

I am already addicted and haven’t even begun yet. It’s all I think about and talk about. I wish I could make 4 at a time. There are so many different looks that I feel that I have to have. I really don’t want my first to be mediocre, but I know I have to be realistic. After all, I am no artist. I’m sure they I will finish really quick. I get stuck on things easily so I’m sure I won’t be able to put her down until I am a certain way along in the process.

@Deemillers1 Welcome!

When I first started I got a doll from Goodwill and cheap craft paints form Walmart just to make sure it was something I liked and would continue to do before I fully invested. Well needless to say, My name is Annette and I am addicted to painting babies! My first baby I painted was a Vampire as I didn’t want mistakes to make me feel overwhelmed. It was made for a family member so it will stay close to me, lol. I was very happy with the results.

We all have strengths and weaknesses in the painting process. I haven’t painted in a week and a half since I am moving. Hate it! Good Luck and keep up posted, we love to see pics and will cheer you on!

Hi do you have Denise Pratts video? I started out with that DVD and the Bountiful Baby Starter Kit that came with EVERYTHING I needed to get started! It’s a great place to begin. Start there and watch lots of YouTube videos. It helps! The more knowledge you can absorb the better
Good luck and welcome to your new addiction!

@Deemillers1 I use air dry and work on 3, in various stages, at a time. Painting, rooting, sewing and or crocheting clothes and blankets. I have too much fun!

Welcome. I’m new as well but let me tell you I am totally addicted. I’m working on my 9th one now. It has been trail and error, but I love it so mush so that my 13 year old will be trying her hand during winter break. Reborning has been a distresser for me. I use heat set paint and the New Wave Oven. My first attempt was Shyann and I will be keeping her forever.

I spent months on my first one and stripped her twice. Then had to replace her head. Now I can get one painted in 3 days, if i’m really dedicated. That’s 3 very full days. Then another week to root. I’m only on my 8th baby though, so still new here.

Can’t wait to see yours!

My biggest lesson was figuring out how thin to get the paint. Some folks would say like tea or milk but I had to fool around with it a LOT until I figured it out. Oh and the nuwave oven was a must have. I think one reason my first took so long was because I didn’t have the nuwave yet. I had to redo a lot of work that wasn’t curing.

Wow hats of to you Newbies! I have been creating babies since this past March, consider myself pretty new. Air Dry babies take a little longer since they need to cure for a number of days. I am only on baby number 14, I think, lol. @Skylar I had a seconds Ethnic Shyann and she gave me big problems, she was my baby number 2. My MIL has her and loves her. @jeepers 3 days - Amazing!

I love the Shyann kit, but I really love Natalie. she reminds me of my youngest daughter, and my eldest sister. I just finished her.
