*UPDATE* New Vinyl Used in BB Kits? Strong Smell

Just got a Callie asleep kit and goodness, she is precious! But the vinyl is different from other BB kits - a peachier color, which is no big deal, but the smell! It’s a Windex/heavy ammonia smell that hasn’t faded with washing and letting it sit outside. It’s so strong that it’s makes my head and throat hurt. Chemicals and such always make me nervous. Anybody else? Any ideas on how to get the smell to go away? Anyone know if the new vinyl is certified like the old vinyl? I love the kit, but the smell is concerning.

I have only had one kit like that recently. It was that smell and VERY oily. I wrote about it on a post, but I think what it ended up taking was a couple of baking soda dawn scrubs, overnight soaks in dawn water, then a trip or two through the dishwasher.

Thank you so much for the suggestions! I will try all of those things. It is so loud I can smell it throughout the house. :weary:

Maybe contact BB? It could be a bad batch.

UPDATE

The smell is almost gone after sitting out overnight. I ended up not having time to do anything further after I posted yesterday, but by this morning, it was tons better.

I primed and have done creases and a few base layers and I love how it is taking paint! It’s a harder vinyl, and so far, no places that the paint isn’t sticking!
