Thinning out the closet

Baby clothes are such a sweet little addiction.

I am not sure why I have so many…Ok, I do know why but really, I am a little beside myself. I have way too many, some I , some I hoard forgot I had, some I hoarded because they were on sale, some I love so much I never dress babies in them (that is the weirdest of all). It never fails, I make a baby and I can’t find the outfit I want in my stash so off I go to find something.

This year, if it isn’t in the closet, the baby goes naked…so I better find something and stop being silly.

I need to thin it out.

I try, then think “Oh this would be cute for a fairy, and this would be cute for a preemie, and these are bamboo, and so soft, gotta keep em”. I am not getting anywhere.

With this new batch of babies I went online and bought gowns that were at least 100 years old. Why? because they had a vibe…sigh.

Gonna do better this year, no buying clothes, no buying clothes, no buying clothes…

Anyone else wishing they had a little more self control and a credit card with a zero balance?

I figured out a long time ago that the reason I paint babies is so I can shop for baby clothes. It’s an addiction for me. I have bins and boxes and drawers full of baby clothes. I can’t resist a good sale. I could clothe at least 20 human babies for their first month of life. It’s ridiculous and embarrassing when I think about it. I need to open a boutique. I need to use what I have, for sure.

Absolutely! Lol. Even as a child whenever i would get a little money for helping out the neighbors or for my birthday i would make a bee line straight to that baby section.

I get weirdly, emotionally attached to clothes :person_facepalming:t2:
I’ll buy something that is perfect for a certain baby, and then I can’t bring myself to send it. I tell myself it’s because it’s great for photos, but we all know that’s not the reason I keep it

I go through phases of what I love, which in turn becomes what I like, several more demotions until I am at “Why did I buy this!” I love dressing my dolls; picking outfits and clothing just for them. I bet I have hung onto a 1910 boy’s real velvet suit and silk shirt, in pristine never worn condition. The problem is that it is sized to fit Reva Schick’s Angelica or Gabriella. I have a Gabriella kit on hand (again, for years) but the love is gone for those two kits. I don’t think they deserve the suit. And I don’t want to root that head. :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, you are not alone. I have about 250 pounds of baby clothes. Some I just love so they’ve never gone home with a baby. Part of the reason I have so many is that when I see something that I fall in love with I buy it because I know I won’t be able to get it later. And…I just love baby stuff.

I have the total opposite problem, I never have enough clothes or not the right size or the right gender for the dolls I make and I have to force myself to go shopping for them.
I sure have some that I keep for my own dolls but they are usually nice used ones that I find in thrift store.

It’s great to know that I’m not alone in not wanting to part with clothes that I love! I have too many baby clothes too but some of them I just can’t part with. Every time I go to ROSE I wind up buying more clothes that I can’t part with----does that make any kind of sense at all???

Omg yes!! My daughter is so over my buying addiction! Every time we go to a store she say “Stop buying baby clothes”! And a little loud to!! It’s really embarrassing. :joy::joy: I have a weakness for clearance. Plus I also have no self
Control with seeing something I “just have to have”. Even though I’ll never use some, Instill buy more. I JUST needs to stay out of the store’s!! I figured it as an investment, In the was I’ll make money back. I can always sell or put in hime going boxes. Either way, would probably use the money to get more clothes!! :joy::joy:

I know what you mean about having them and then not using them. Saving them in case there’s a better situation to use them. And every time I order something because I just don’t have the appropriate thing I have to order extra to get the free shipping

Oh goodness yes! I went through my baby clothes closet the other day to thin out/sort to take some to OUAC. It took two days AFTER the initial days of washing/drying/sorting. Took 3 huge boxes and got rid of some. Still have two large boxes to get rid of. Plus my keepers have 3 giant trash bags full :person_facepalming:
It’s a obsession in itself :joy::joy:
It doesn’t help that my local OUAC had sales the last few weeks with all clearance $1 or 90% off the clearance price…making Some pieces as low as $.10. just can’t help it lol
Each outfit needs matching/coordinating socks/hat/paci. Now I’m starting to hunt into shoes/booties, leg warmer long socks, paci clips with teethers etc :joy::joy::joy:

I have way too many clothes and items for babies. I was a foster parent to infant and toddlers for 13 years and that got me started LOL. I just love all things baby :upside_down_face:

I have a ton of clothes here. But it seems that when I don’t always have what I need in the right size, so I end up with more. So maybe I have a clothing addition, but don’t buy the right things?

I have an issue with baby clothes lol. Wayyy more girl clothes than boys. When my son was born 32 years ago I lived in overalls and now they don’t make them anymore. He always looked so sweet in them.
