Im going to try my hand at rooting steven. Finding good hair at a good price is scarce im learning lol. Anyway, take it with a grain of salt as i dont have anything to compare it too, but this etsy shop sells an entire ounce of suri alpaca for 10 doll hairs! (Pun intended). Its so so soft. It comes washed but not gathered so youd have to do that part. She has plenty of photo reviews showcasing her product on finished reborns. Her customers love their alpacas hair. None of it is dyed as they shave their own alpacas. But there are varying shades of blonde brown and black.
She also sent a sample of black! I took a photo with flash and without so you can see the color in both lighting. That being said, does anyone have advice on how to bundle, brush and keep these nice in prep for rooting? They smell wonderful too no barn smell.
Anyway i wanted to share what i found for anyone looking for another option for reborn hair. Cant beat that price. And i ordered 5 days ago, got it very fast.
What about using the zip ties we all replace from the bodies to hold the bundles?
I used rubber bands when I washed the batch I bought. Though it was not prewashed and was lots of work.
Alpaca is super soft but I find I hate it in the end. It is hard to wash on the reborn. (I dont wash all the dolls with mohair when the doll is rooted but have a few times. Alpaca clumps together and is a pain in the butt to brush out with out breaking, IMO) But I could have just rooted it too long, maybe I need to only do alpaca barely there rooting (not that I am good at that look… lol)
From what ive learned alpaca isnt the best for heavy rooting or larger (older baby) kits? The artist i learn most from only uses it on newborn babes where a full head isnt necessary? Luckily all my kits are newborn size so hoping it works out ok
