Silicone for weight

has anyone ever tried filling limbs with silicone? just a thought i had but don’t know what would happen. i was trying to get a
way from purple sand but haven’t found anything that looks as good. so i thought what if i whipped up some purple silicone and poured it in.

No, do not put silicone in the limbs, it will react badly over time. I would not recommend sand either - it is common practice now to fill the limbs and weighting pouches (hosiery, latex free vinyl gloves, trouser socks) for body and head with tiny glass beads.

If you really want the internal color I know some artists will do a wash of Genesis. You may have to do a bit of searching to find how to do it correctly but once it’s heated it won’t bleed through. I’ve read a tutorial and it mentions how to get too much color out of the hands and draining the limbs upside down etc. I just don’t know who’s tutorial it was.

thank you for the replies i will do a search on the genesis wash i think that is my only alternative right now. i remember when everyone was using acrylic purple paint. after a few years the poor baby looked like it had been run over by a train the bruising was awful. i’ve never had a complaint but i often wonder what my earlier babies look like now

My nieces have some of my earliest babies when I used lavender acrylic paint…they are very sad. :frowning:

Secrist have a DVD tutorial called ‘The art of newborning’ Advanced classroom DVD available from McPhersons (Canada) which shows how to do a ‘blue’ internal wash. I think it’s about $20.
