OK California people I’m reaching out…I NEED A HAIR TUTOR. I’m totally serious
I’ve watched more videos than my eyes can focus on and I’m still no closer to achieving my desired results, granted it’s getting better, but with my learning style I need a live demo and unfortunately I won’t be making it to ROSE this year. Sooooo… I’m looking for a CA member close to me (one with patience lol) who I can hire for a few a few lessons (preferably on a weekend) to teach me the basics of prisma, painted and micro-rooting hair.
I’m in So Cal (Ventura) and would like to find someone relatively close by, I can go to you or you can come to me. I have all of my own supplies and only need the teacher. I have no idea what the going rate is for a reborning mentor/tutor so if there is someone here you’ll have to tell me your rates and I can decide from there.
Thanks in advance for any help you have

I live far far away from CA, all the way in NY! I hope you find someone though, as a teacher and maybe even an added bonus of a reborning buddy close by! Anyways, I too have watched and bought almost all of the tutorials out there and I think the only way to truly learn rooting is to do it yourself and practice practice practice! The more heads you do the better you will get and you will learn with every head you do! Just bc we watch videos or even see someone doing it in person does not mean we will root just like them or be a master rooter bc a master rooter taught us how to do it! Same with painting, just bc we follow a tutorial and use the same kit and same exact colors, 100 people will make 100 different looking babies! Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your reply. Well I’m not trying to master any skills just yet, not from a few lessons anyway, I’m just trying to get a solid understanding. Practice practice practice is great, but if you don’t have a solid foundation on which to start then you’re just practicing the mistakes over and over again which in my view is beyond counter productive and takes a good deal of the fun out of the whole reborning process. I’m all smiles throughout until I get to the end when it’s time to decide between baldie or hair…and I’d like to be able to give myself the option and not keep choosing baldies because the other option means ruining all the hard paint work I’ve just done.
There are many learning styles and unfortunately I’m a kinesthetic learner and do best with hands on instruction, I need the “back and forth,” the interaction, as opposed to just having someone/something talk at me or show me pictures because that style of teaching/learning doesn’t answer the specific questions that “I” need to make it all “click.” Does that make sense? My goal is not to root/paint/draw like anyone else, or copy their style it’s only the gain the understanding of the techniques, individual styles are developed along the way. It’s very true that 100 people can follow the same exact tutorial and result in 100 very different looking babies just because the individual styles differ, BUT the basics of each technique is always the same and there really is a right and a wrong way to do them, and I want to learn the right way.

I totally understand, and I wasn’t trying to say you wanted to copy someone’s style or be like the teacher teaching you. Was just trying to say, I’m a hands on learner, I watched all the tutorials out there and thought I understood until I picked up the mohair and needle and then I said, “huh??” haha! I had no clue what the heck I was doing! It wasn’t until my 4th maybe 5th head where it just finally clicked with me and “got it” . I learned from the mistakes I made with head 1 to not do with head 2 and so on. And things I picked up and figured out to do with my next one. But I totally get it, if there was someone close by to me I’d love to just sit and watch them root and ask questions and let them watch me root to tell me what I’m doing wrong or what I should be doing. I still have a ton to learn and tons of questions! But my small tiny town has no idea about reborns so my only option was to just go for it and do it. While your waiting to see if anyone lives close by, you could practice on test heads or legs or arms! But the heads will give you a better idea of what u need to do with the curves and shape of the head. I hope you can find someone to come teach you the basics so you can root those beautiful painted babies some hair! Bc your right you do need at least the basics down and an understanding of the rooting process so you can at least practice practice practice!
