Rough with rooting?

So I was rooting my first doll and all of the needles I was using broke! I got an inexpensive set on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LW145II/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5-Cpyb790K9BX) I did some heavy rooting in that I was taking more than one strand at a time (I wanted the hair to be thick), and also I was doing directional. I tried to take my time and be as delicate as possible. Was I too rough? Where they cheep? Any tips?

Did you you any kind of rooting tool? They seem to reduce bending of the needle.

We all break MANY needles when we first begin. It could be the quality of the needle, too, though. It may help if you warm the head.

I used to break many needles when I first started too … for me It was easier to use a tool . It makes the needles smaller and avoid them to bend and break easily … I remember one day I broke my last needle and I was almost done rooting a baby … I got the very tiny piece and put inside the tool … it was a desperate scene hahahah …

I still break 3 or 4 per head if I get in a hurry haha.

Happens to all of us. Did you heat your head? It’s really important to NOT bend the needle, if it bends, it usually breaks. Make sure you put your needle in Straight and pull it out the same way. I wrap a rubber band around my needle down where the needle just gets fatter. That’s where I hold it. It takes practice, you’ll get the hang of it and pretty soon you’ll be rooting lots of dolls with the same needle, you’ll stop breaking them, believe me!!

Youll get better with time…take longer to break one that is!!

I did have the handle/tool. I just took it out so everyone could see what it looked like.

I fill my heads with polypellets up to the neck then pack them tightly with bunched up paper towels. This prevents ‘give’ in the vinyl so much less chance of bending the needle. I never heat my heads. It’t not necessary with this method. I broke a lot of needles before I started doing this. Now I rarely break one.
