Thank you for that explanation as well as pictures! I’m going to try again doing as you say and I hope I can get the hang of it. I thought because I had come a long way in rooting vinyl that it should translate easily over to silicone. I was wrong! LOL
Exactly! That was meeee!
In other words, compared to the vinyl rooting, just think that you don’t want to see rooted hair inside of the vinyl head, all of the hair goes in the vinyl layer itself and not through the vinyl. I hope my explanation makes sense. At least that is what is working for me for this head.
Your monkey looks sooo real…and your little dragon is a sweetie…you nailed painting/blending on these two!!! ![]()
Thank you so much for your kind words, Cherie! ![]()
Alternatives are fun and stressful at the same time (obviously silicone is so new to me).
But I feel like a kid coloring pictures in the coloring book
.
I can spend the whole day doing it without even noticing time.
Yelena, I’m glad you figured out how to root your silicones, I always heard you had to root silicone real deep to keep the hair from coming out, I’ve never tried silicone, it’s completely out of my budget. BUT, just in case I ever do try it, I’ll remember what you said!!
I don’t know, girl, I only shared what seems working for me. I would be curios to hear if others tried and if it works also.
I asked Laurie Duncan and she said that she always uses lavender needle (which is 42g 3 Barb Spiral and which I don’t have) and she holds it flat. She did mentioned that her needle often comes out in the upper head area, just like my does, so that is flat ‘pock’. I can see that I am rooting now like she does.
I found out that if you root deep then hair stand out perpendicular. You can go deep on eyelashes.
And since I am a total silicone newbie I don’t know longevity of those hairs or eyelashes, which is scary.
Ether way - you can’t go deeper than a length of a needle.
I’m going to try on my Presley and once I do, I’ll let you know how it’s going and how it seems to hold up (I don’t handle my keeper dolls often, so there that to take into account too)
I’ve missed all the forum interaction too! I still come on but not as often as I used too. Since moving to Florida life has just gotten overwhelming. Caring for my MIL with dementia is exhausting, paired with an awesome boom in my business means I have almost no extra time for social media or socializing. I still have to go on Facebook for my business but if it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t be on at all. I do enjoy reading posts and catching up with you all when I’m able, but I miss the good old days of all day chats and collaboration!
I’d say, whatever works, keep doing it!!
I confirm that this technic is the only one that works well. I tried several times to root silicone without success and I was confused by people telling me that it was easier than on vinyl.
A friend showed me in person how to do it and I rooted my last silicone without any trouble. I didn’t find it easy but it was more enjoyable!
Yay! I am glad it’s working!
I bought a preowned rooted silicone who had a bald spot on the back of her head. I filled it in but that spot took me three times as long as rooting vinyl
I haven’t been on the forum in a long time. I retired 2 years ago and thought that I would have a lot of time to reborn but I was wrong
. I’m going to try to start back doing a few for Christmas and see if I can get back into it. I have over 100 kits to work on and just preordered another one. I must be a hoarder. ![]()

It’s nice to see you again!
Thank you! If I ever get another reborn started I’ll post some pics.
Hi @CindyLouWho
Glad to see you back here with us!!!

I didn’t want to create a new thread, nor bump a super old one for this. But two days ago, I posted this meme to Facebook. It was bright and sunny, not a cloud in sight. I just thought it was funny.
Fast forward to today (Saturday). I’m at work and suddenly I hear the unmistakable sound of rain pouring down on the rooftop.
You can’t make this stuff up. ![]()
Do I win a premonition prize? Haha
Here too, LOL!
Not raining yet but supposed to be cloudy all weekend
Same here.
I had plans of taking my daughter to swim. Weather said nope.
