Opinions wanted please

I am working on my Summer Rain and hope to have her painting finished by tomorrow. I’m not sure what do about hair though. Rooting is out because my hands and wrists just can’t take it right now so I’m looking at either painting hair or leaving her bald. I am still learning how to paint hair and I don’t want to ruin her if it’s not good enough yet but I think she might sell better with hair. What do you all think? Below are examples of the last 2 heads that I painted.

So what do you think, bald or painted?

I also prefer painted myself. Wish I knew how to do it and make it look good.

I think your painted hair looks great…If I painted nice hair like that and were choosing bald or painted to sell a doll I would do painted. The only thing I can see that I would probably do is shade in a few little sprigs in the crown circle on the back of the head…you’ve got lots of movement and colour variation going on there which looks very very nice…I especially love 2nd photo…You can be very proud of what you are doing…

I know what you mean about wrist, neck and shoulders…rooting is my most hated job of all…I would rather clean my bathroom or wash windows than root hair…lol

You have done a great job with your painting hair. I would have you paint one of my dolls anytime. I do agree with @westernstarr that you need to do a few wisps over the swirl center to soften it a bit.

Beautiful hair! Only thing i would change is paint the center of the swirl. Either dark like the surround area or add smaller baby hairs in the swirl. You have definitely got the eye for painting hair.

@snuggle2me and @westernstarr do you think the first 3 photos look better than the last 3? I tried to shade in the swirl part more on that one than the first. Should I go even darker in the swirl circle this time?

I like the last 3 better, just my opinion

I think the hair is looking really good… you have great natural movement going on and the strands are varied which looks good…I like both styles equally well and it just may be the photo because the hair surrounding the crown is dark it may not pick up that it is more blended in…I just think the top photos, probably because the crown appears to be smaller doesn’t seem to emphasis the circle as much…You do have a natural inclination with the hair painting…Will be looking forward to watching as you progress…

First 3 photos of the “fixed” crown are much more realistic looking.

Yes…it looks awesome to start with but I do agree with everyone about the swirl touch up. Looks much more natural touched up.

Your painted hair is very nice…just the swirk stands out a bit but you can easily fix that…I am taking examples to improve my painted hair and yours is one of them…!!..:heartpulse:

Aww thank you! That is such a nice compliment. I’m far from where I want to be but I sure do enjoy painting it.
