New dumb paint question

I read people often use a yellow wash to make skin more real .What would the difference be if you just added the color to the pink or skin your using ?.Told you it was dumb.

If you add yellow to pink you are going to get a peachy orange color. If you layer your colors in different shades, using textured sponges, then you get dimension and the coloring is not all muddled together.
