New BB Realborn Kits verses Older BB Artist Kits

Just wondering…is there any major difference between the quality of the new BB Realborn kits and the other BB Artist kits? I have reborn most every BB kits over the last 6 years (with the exception of the new Realborn kits) but moved away from them mainly because I have been doing most of the newer artist sculpts that are coming out and also living in oz they are not available other than ordering direct from BB or limited selection of them on aussie ebay. I heard about the Realborn and have watched as they came out but have never actually purchased one to reborn as of yet…Just wondered if they are “better quality” kits meriting the $69 - $79 price verses the others at half the price or less? I have started a series of dolls called “Young Collectors Series” and have started using the BB kits again for those as I am able to produce and sell them cheaper for young ladies just starting out with reborn doll collections so was checking what you ladies have to say about the Realborns? Thanks for your help.

I have found the realborn kits to be more intricate in detail and more like a “real baby” than the regular BB kits. Overall, I would say that I like them more than the regular kits.

I just finished a Presley and before him a Gemma and Corbin. I noticed no difference in the vinyl but must say the finish on the vinyl of all BB kits (fingers and toes especially) is smoother and better than some of my most recent LEs. I love the limbs on the Realborns because they really do look REAL. BB has released so many beautiful kits though in the past few years you don’t need to spend the extra money to get realistic babies. So many of them have beautiful faces and limbs. I’m pretty sure the cost increase on the Realborns is due to the process to create them and their LE status.

I haven’t really noticed any big differences in the vinyl between the new kits and the older ones . I have reborned several of both kinds , and they are all adorable . I do like the soft peachy colors of the real born kits , over some of the older kits that are almost white and take forever to add visible color to them . I must say that I do love the detail in the real born kits compared to the old kits . The sculpts in the real borns are very realistic , and in my opinion , are much more real in every detail . I love all the little wrinkles , and if you are going for realism , then they are the closest thing to a real baby ! I love the real born kits , and can’t wait for the newest ones to come out !

Comparing Real Borns against other all other BB kits is really not possible. There are too many differences in all the “other” BB kits to lump them in one group; some very realistic, some less and over the years the vinyls BB produced their kits has varied wildly. I have done Morgan 5x and each time the vinyl was totally different; ranging from pale baby pink to boiled lobster red (she ended up AA baby). If comparing Real Borns versus other limited edition kits, I think there are many beautiful kits that have as much realistic detail. And I personally prefer kits that were created by an artist sculptor, than something that is a scan.

Thank you ladies, I think I will have to order one at least and give it a try.
ludmila - so with the scanned kits…do they not have an artist sculpt them from the scan or is it done by a machine or something like that…don’t fully understand the process I know they use computers like the animators do to make scale models…just wondered if a sculptor still has to sculpt it? Very true about the colour and texture changes over the years…I have noticed that as well. Thank you all again for the info…

Great questions!

I believe they use 3D printer, that means they scan the baby and the printer makes it in plastic. Somebody then tweaks it so it makes a nice doll, and then the molds are made from that.

Denice Pratt tweeks the baby before it goes to be made into molds and poured. I love the detail in the RealBorns and I thunk, they are VERY realistic looking. I have reborned 5 of them at this point.
