My Crystal- Looks like the cat is out of the bag!

Hi Everyone, I’ve loved talking with you all, and greatly appreciate the tips you’ve given me. I’ve held back on sharing my babies, until I felt I created one as amazing as all of yours. I’ve chosen my Cystal, now Sofia to share, (though it looks like someone already beat me to it! ) I am a classically trained artist, with a BFA in Studio Art and Art History, though the canvas has never felt quite like home. My interest in makeup on the human form, and my compassion for babies, eventually led me to creating with genesis paints on reborn babies. Now I just need some help in mastering the hair! I am definitely not there yet! Thanks again for letting me be a part of your reborn family. I hope to keep learning, and to meet more of you!

Thanks @judylane1961! I love Crystal bald too, especially with a cute headband, but I wish I had a mentor for doing hair. My hair still looks very amateur.

Nice job. She’s adorable bald. Will you sell or keep her?

She is adopted already, but I will be so sad to see her go! She is my favorite that I’ve created so far. But I know there will be others, and our babies bring so much joy to the people who adopt them!

Quite possibly she is the cutest Crystal I’ve ever seen! I would normally say her lips were too dark, however in her case the overall coloring of the doll is complemented by the bright lips. I can see you are an artist and really sure of yourself with color. Nice job, and thanks for joining us here in the open. We have a lot of fun and learn something almost everyday. It is rather like art school. Like you, I have a BFA and came to this from other forms of art but this is my favorite. I loved drawing children and babies, but these you can hold. It’s like artwork almost brought to life! I have wild illusions of sculpting one sometime. I love working 3-D. Are you going to sculpt eventually?

Thank you, @honojane! Yes, I struggle with getting the lips just right. They were lighter, but then I added a bit more color to her bottom lip to give her a bit more of a pout. I am still learning, and will hold back on it with my next baby, and maybe ask for critique before finishing.
It’s nice to have found such an open, welcoming community. Not every form of art provides us with this. It is amazing to weight them, and hold them in your arms just like a real baby!!
And oh my gosh, YES! I keep thinking about sculpting all the time, but don’t want to get too far ahead of myself. I’m trying to hold back on my impulsiveness, until I have mastered this technique more. I would absolutely love to see what you sculpt! What proccess were you thinking of using. I was wondering…if you sculpt with sculpy, would it be able to take multiple bakes when using the heatset paints? Or maybe you have something else in mind entirely?

I practice my sculpting with ProSculpt which is supposed to crack less. Super Sculpy has cracking issues. I know that from other applications. Izzy on here sculpts some. Several other people have tried or are trying their hand at sculpting. @westernstarr comes to mind.

Now you’ve got me thinking sculpting again… I have impulse issues too! LOL. I am also one of our senior citizens on here and sometimes feel like if I’m going to sculpt I better get to it! The arthritis in my hands is not getting better with time!

That’s the other amazing thing about this forum. We have people from teens to seniors and we all get along beautifully, learning and teaching, chatting and supporting each other. It’s so awesome!

Well it sounds like you’ve been studying up on it for a while, so maybe it IS time for you to jump in! What sort of base would you use? Would you buy a form, or create your own?
You are right! I love the interaction of people of all ages. I don’t feel like that happens as much out in the “real world”, though I’ve always been one of the odd ones, with friends of varied ages since around high school. Haha.

I purchased a hard head form some time ago, but I don’t like it. I think I’ll just make my own. Lots of sculptors do. You can buy forms from several of the companies (none of which are hopping into my mind this morning as I have not had my coffee yet!) They can be purchased in different sizes. I have found you need to have two or three packages of Pro-Sculpt on hand if you want to accomplish anything!

Glad you joined us! You will LOVE it here! I think of BB as my home base, even though I am a member of a few other forums. Nowhere else do you feel the love like you do here, everyone is so kind and helpful and willing to share all kinds of tips and tidbits…and PICTURES…we LOVE pictures, so jump in and post away!

Thank you, @karen! I’ve made it a habit to check in every day, since I joined the forum. I love all that I’ve learned so far, and like you, the more pictures the better! Thank you for being so friendly and welcoming.

Secrist has head sculpting forms in 3 sizes. I bought some for arms and legs online but I don’t remember where. I just remember that they were hard to find.
