How do I keep the hair that I have rooted from getting matted while I continue to root??
I know everyone does things differently but I personally cut my hair as I go along, I map it, plan out the style or look I want, then I root and cut it to that style as I go. I keep track of the rooting end and reroot the hair I already cut. If the hair is long enough I can root 1 section of mohair up to 3 times. I use Johnson & Johnson leave in detangler as I go along to wet and comb my already rooted hair out of the way of where I want to root.
Spritz with water and conditioner combo in spray bottle and brush.
I was taught to lay a satin piece of fabric on my rooting pillow. I did that for a while then decided to buy a satin cap. I also use the leave in conditioner and trim the hair as I go.
Did you put the cap over the pillow or the babies head?
Lol…over the pillow.
Are you using a rooting pillow or regular pillow?
Brilliant! I need one.
Does the satin rub the face at all, making it shiny? (vinyl)
I see some people have this issue (I havent thankfully)
*edited to add: Do darker colors matter? Do they come in lighter prints?
Cut the pieces you are going to root with to length. I spray with detangler or watered down dye free fragrance free fabric softener. The fabric softener straight almost acts like hair spray and holds everything in place while I root. I dipped a toothbrush in a cup of it and brushed it on and it worked like a charm.
I just started rooting. Right now I am using a neck pillow. My big mistake might be using a towel to cover the hole. I can sew so I might make myself a proper pillow
When i root I cover the sections I’ve finished with plastic cling wrap so I don’t rub my hands over it and rip it out or mat it while I’m trying to root. It also protects the paint from getting soaking wet when you wet the hair.
I put my head into a padded (with dishtowel or whatever) bowl just large enough to hold the head nicely. Put a satin ‘night cap’ over the padded bowl and put the head in it, the satin keeps the friction down. If I need the head to lean a certain way I just fold up a washrag and tuck it under the satin where ever I need the head propped up to a certain position. Works perfect!
I don’t think the color matters. None of mine have turned out shiny.
I used a knee hi sock stuffed with poly fill for a long time. It fit right in that satin cap.
