Look who's there ! My next silicone project!

She just arrived !
I am excited :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
I didn’t realize Ecoflex20 was so soft, too much for me. For the head it’s ok but the limbs…do people really enjoy it ? Does not look or feel real. Too floppy. And to think about people wanting softer than that😳

Anyway it will be fun to paint !

I had an ecoflex 10 micropreemie, and I had to sell her. She was supposed to be a memorial but the softness of the silicone made her Limbs flop in all sorts Of crazy ways. I’d be super interested to see how the 20 feels. Looking forward to seeing how your baby turns out!

My Juno is Ecoflex30 and I love it. It’s feel real, to the touch and the “floppyness”.
A real baby has bones and muscles, so I don’t understand why the soft blend or marshmallow blend is so in demand !

When you paint a partial silicone do you cut off that big chunk on the limbs and neck?

I am not sure what to do with that, Juno didn’t have those chunks. I guess I will cut them if I can feel them through the body. If not they will add to the weight and I will be saving on glass beads !

I wonder how those big chunks affect supporting the limbs so they don’t wear and tear

I don’t know, I think it’s may be just an extra when they pour the silicone, it’s not partbof the sculpt. The limbs are not heavy.

I may be wrong, but I believe it’s to add strength and longevity to them limbs and head

I left my silicone cuddle baby’s head alone and just put that big piece in the body. I really think it needs it for stability.

Silicone makes me nervous! I’ll live vicariously through you! Can’t wait to see him/her finished

I will start soon, just need to finish Naomi first to be able to start on a clean surface. I tend to be messy while I am painting

I can’t wait to see yours finished. I would leave the big hunks of vinyl on there. Maybe it will feel like shoulder bones and hip bones under the body.

I will probably do that.
Anyway I will keep them to hold the pieces.

Silicone is squishy. Maybe the big chunks keep the limbs and head from slipping out.

I’m seriously thinking about making a silicone baby. I’m worried about that floppiness too. I wonder if there is a way to add a ‘skeleton’ inside for reality?

I use wire armature as a skeleton for my needle felting sculptures and that’s why I was wondering. I wouldn’t use wire for a baby though, but maybe a firm silicone? Thoughts?

I know some silicone pourers add armatures sometime, but I don’t know if it can be done after or with what.

Done the veins and blue undertones, now I add a blood red mottling layer but have to stop to turn on my humidifier, too much static :confounded: Pet hairs are my worst enemy !

I am doing a video of my progress and steps (in french) if you want to see, it will be on my channel Saturday.
