I dont know what type but I know that I have bought 2 different kits now thinking they took a full pacifier to find they didnt. lol
Their mouth was not deep enough for the whole “nipple” to fit. Maybe if only a preemie pacifier fit but it was STATED that it needs a preemie size (they are harder to find in stores) that would help.
I used a regular preemie pacifier (not the gum drop kind) for Twin A and it worked well. I like that the mouth on that kit is not a circle. I think it looks more natural. Yes there are some who dislike it, and say it looks gaping open… but if you had the kit in front of you the mouth is really small. I think the tip of my finger fit in it, maybe… but nothing “huge”
I also really like the look of Melody Hess’ Ephram kit (he was so fun to paint) but I have seen people say they wished there was a tongue to add to the realism. If there was a way to have a tongue and full pacifier (preemie or reg) would be great.
A preemie pacifier is about 3/4 inch long (at least the one I have here) and the regular pacifier here is about a full inch long.
On a side note - thank you for being active on the forum right now, it is fun to see an employee in the comments.
hmmm, for molding purposes the opening of a mouth has to be the same height as the depth of the mouth. an inch is quite tall for the mouth being open. That’s probably why other sculptors have made it to fit a preemie pacifier vs a regular one. It is also tough to avoid the mouth looking to much like it’s gaping open or the jaw looking unnatural…I am looking through files and expressions in photos, 100% cannot promise anything, but there’s a possibility one of the babies I am looking through will work.
Not really, but thanks. He just looked unfinished to me and a full pacifier didn’t fit all the way in his mouth, even though people advertised him as being able to take a full pacifier or bottle. I made a modified one by just cutting part of the nipple off so no magnets necessary.
which binki is more commonly used for reborn babies?
The green binki will probably be better, but if nobody really uses that type I can try to get a mouth that will take the other type of binki AND be moldable…
I see more of the bottom kind. (but they are mostly altered to be magnetic which is difficult to do with the top green ones)
Or this kind. The pink is a normal pacifier and the yellow one is a preemie and the kind I used in the Twin A I made.
I think the green ones would be fine also as long as the description of the kit tells you. If we just go off of a prototype picture we dont know if it is just a prop or actually fits. lol
Realborn is about 20 inches, I haven’t ever compared the kits side by side , But Landon is 21" with a big old head and chunky thighs, Michael is not as much of a chunk.
Okay, Good to know on the binkis, whatever we end up creating I will make a note on the kit to have it put in the description which pacifier fits in the mouth:)…still will be a while before you’ll see this kit but its happening!
