I am so upset with myself. I had a beautiful Sharlemae that was one of my dream kits. I decided to change his eyes to the next larger size. In doing so, I had to cut the flap off on the inside. Still they did not work. I needed to trim the area around the eye (on the inside). I got this bright idea of using my dremmel. Somehow I hit the high button on the dremmel and it destroyed one eye. I went to Walmart at midnight and got some sculpey. Tried that several times and did not work. I tried cutting some vinyl and gluing it on the chunk I took out. That looked terrible. I tried long lashes which also looked terrible. I stayed up two nights all night and finally gave up last night. I know it is a longshot that I would ever find a Sharlemae head. I wrote to Bonnie Brown, not really expecting anything. I so wish I had left him alone. I bought him from an individual about two years ago and paid dearly for him. So, for right now I am quitting.
Oh noooooo I am so sorry that happened; my heart goes out to you. Hopefully Bonnie will have a head for you, or someone else will. (((HUGS)))
I’m so sorry. That really hurts when you’re so close to being finished and something like that happens. I had finished one years ago and was fixing a small spot on the skin and decided to set the spot with a heat gun and it melted the face. I didn’t realize that there were different heat settings on it.
So sorry it happened, but I have a solution for you. Just yesterday I bought a pirate set, including an eye patch in Dollar Tree for my grandson. Dress your baby as a pirate with an eye patch and he will be so cute.
Oh No I feel just terrible for you!I know that really took the wind out of your sails. Give it some time, this feeling will lessen over time. Maybe an alternative artist would see some value in the kit and give you a little bit for it… Just a thought but right now there is not much going to make this better.
So sorry that happened to you and with such a special kit. But don’t let it stop you from doing what you love! We’ve all had mistakes happen to us- don’t give up!
I understand how frustrating that can be as I did that to a couple of my babies. I agree with @YelenaRey make apples into oranges, pirate or she was born that way. But if you can’t stand looking at your mishap I agree with @PutABonnetOnIt I’ll bet there is an Alternative that would love her! I hope Bonnie Brown finds a head for you, that way you can keep reborning, unless you just need to take a break. So sorry @pattyabe I wish you the best of luck!
Oh no! I really hope you find a solution and keep on crafting!
I bought a Sharlamae kit last year…paid a lot as well ($400). I haven’t gotten up the nerve to paint it yet
Oh no! So sorry! This is a really hard bump in the road, but you can continue on!! ️
Do you have a picture of the defect?
For someone that has been doing this for a little over five years, I am too embarrassed to show what I did.
I love his arms and legs that I will use on another kit if I don’t find a head which I think is unlikely.
Sending you hugs!
That is horrible on any baby, but especially on a kit like this.
We all mess up. Mistakes happen. I, personally, have had all kinds of brilliant ideas that didn’t work out well. I messed up a kit painted by a well known sculptor. All I had to do was varnish it.
That said, I hope you’ll reconsider sharing a picture so we can see the damage. So many people here modify kits and do all kinds of stuff. Maybe someone will have an idea for you.
