I finally did it!

So… this past weekend I started working on clearing out my son’s old bedroom. He moved out and got married almost a year ago so I guess I have been procrastinating…

I have turned it into an antique/shabby chic kind of nursery. About 6 months ago, my daughter and I went to an antique mall in Fort Worth and saw the most amazing antique crib… of course, it was not for sale but instead, just a prop for them to market the items that they were selling. This is where I started my search! I called every antique mall in the area but no one had one for sale. Then, I searched on Craigslist. I found one but they wanted over $800 for it and I certainly could not afford that. When my hubby came home from work, he suggested searching on the surrounding area Craigslists. I did not find any nearby. Then, he suggested I search the Austin Craigslist. Now, mind you… Austin is a 3 1/2 hour drive but since we lived there for 12 years, we are very familiar with the area and very comfortable with the drive.

There was a white wrought iron antique crib in Austin for only $75! Woo Hoo! I called the gentleman and explained that I wanted it but I did not want to waste the long drive only to find it no longer available. He said he would hold it for me and pulled the AD. Apparently, crib mattress sizes have changed over the years and I have not been able to find one that actually fits. Regular crib mattresses are too small. I have one in there and have a chunky crib bumper filling the gap. After all… it’s not like I am going to put a real baby in there!

Do you think my reborns have enough clothing???

What about shoes - I think they have more than I do!

Besse Pease Gutmann pictures on the walls -

I love the way it turned out! What do y’all think?

Carmen

Carmen - I am so jealous!

You have done exactly what I pictured in my mind. What a stunning little crib and I just adore the prints on the walls – I don’t know – just everything you’ve done! Congratulations on setting up a beautiful nursery room. You did a fabulous job and what a deal on that crib.

AWESOME!!! Fabulous job!

You have done marvelous!!! And that crib is perfect!!! and it is rare that CL will fail to deliver if you are willing to go out of the area a bit. And you found a seller who was willing to work with you. YAY!!! very lucky babies!!!

I love your iron crib. That is such an awesome piece of furniture. I have never seen one like that before. You are so lucky to have come across that and at such a great price. I love you whole nursery and the pictures too.

Wonderful! I would love to come and visit

Wow Carmen -
What a beautiful crib - and your babies ABSOLUTELY have more clothes and shoes than I do !!!

I also have a set of Besse Pease Gutman collector plates in my “babies” room.

Judy

Love your room and all your assessories…

What a great find! It’s beautiful…the whole room! And now I don’t feel so bad about all the baby clothes I’ve accumulated! (By the way, you can find baby clothes hangers at Walmart, 10 for $1.00) I had some Besse prints at one time, but they made my husband uncomfortable…he didn’t want to have pictures on the wall of “other people’s babies!” Now he’s got a whole second floor of babies in various stages of production! Your room set up is just wonderful…now you have more room…for more babies!

Cute!!

It’s absolutely beautiful, Carmen…I love it, every bit of it! That crib is just precious; I’ve never seen one like it! And yes, I think “maybe” you have just enough clothing for a couple of reborns there…and shoes, too. Now, this doesn’t mean that you have to stop buying if you run upon a good sale, however! Secretly, it’s the clothes that keep me in reborning…I love shopping for babies.

Karen… your Sophia at 10 weeks is adorable…

I completely agree Karen! However, I need to be more selective now when I shop… In addition to all the hanging clothes, there is a rubbermaid container on the floor full of clothes that do not fit in the closet plus a bunch sitting on top of that container because there is no room in it! And that is after I got rid of 2 1/2 garbage bags of clothes to a friend who is having a garage sale this weekend to raise funds for their adoption…

… Hello, my name is Carmen and I am an ADDICT! I’ve tried to stop many times but I just cannot seem to get a handle on this! …Not that I really want to and that is the problem, or is it?

Carmen

Ooops! I almost forgot - thanks everyone! I am very fortunate to have this extra room with no other plans for it… Hmmm… my daughter goes off to college in the fall… I guess I should leave her room alone for the time being since she will probably come home on weekends from time to time!

Carmen

Carmen, I can’t NOT shop for baby clothes either…and I found a delicious little boutique consignment store nearby “Sweet Pea” that has UNBELIEVABLE quality and pricing! I go nuts! The owner is very selective in what she’ll accept–brand new condition or very, very clean with no wear. And prices are $2 - $3 for infant clothing, shoes $1.50 - $2, not to mention all the strollers, baby seats, bedding, etc. Wanna visit?? Bring your credit card and a moving van!!!
