First, this hand splits while it’s in the oven. I set my oven to 275 for 9 min. I’ve been using them settings for years with no issues. The Hand belongs to a realdorn
kit. Secondly, I mixed some regular genesis matt varnish with some genesis thinning medium n a lil mineral spirits. The limbs came out shiny. Also where’s the vinyl touches on the cloth is still white. So I have to turn the limbs over n bake them again. I never had to turn the limbs over before. I know some people turn their limbs. I primed June with some irresistible thinning medium. After I had stripped her n washed her, she came out shiny too. What an I doing wrong with these varnishes? So none I gotta figure out what to use to remove the shine from the limbs.
The white happens to me too (didnt with GHSP). I now varnish one side, bake, cool, varnish the other side, bake, cool, etc.
Then bake a few more times just for good measure making sure I flip them after cooling
I do not mix anything in the Gemini varnish now (I did every time with GHSP). I did and the color separated while baking…
Also I HATE IRHSP varnish. It feels like a rubber chicken once baked. And shiny… So Gemini is my preferred varnish now
I’ve never had a split either. That was only the third bake. That has to be very time consuming varnishing one side at a time. An ethnic tutorial I tried used thinning medium to mix her paints. She said she prefer irshp thinning medium. I like it better than the Gemini. Im gonna have to go back n rewatch videos that compared different mediums.
