I’m not a big collector of babies, but there are a couple I have made that I have not wanted to give up. So my question is- when not working on customs, when do you know that the baby is a keeper? Is it before you even buy the sculpt? When you’re reborning? Or after the baby is complete? I have a kit that looks a lot like my little guy that is a definite keeper (though I haven’t started it yet) but am conflicted on others . I want to hear your stories!
Well I’m only like on my third baby… but! I pick my keepers when I’m buying the kit, some kits I just love so much I know I have to have one. I have two sleeping Thomas to work on because I want to sell one and keep one. In fact, I NEED to sell one so I can keep up with my addiction lol.
I had a couple of keepers sneak up on me. One turned out to be a portrait baby of myself. The other one is really a temporary keeper but it came from a kit that I wasn’t too keen on until I put it together…then I fell in love. I recently bought Maizie Arcello to be a keeper because I absolutely fell in love with Silvia’s prototype.
Haha, yes totally understand that! I wonder how many of us actually make any money. Mine goes right back into supplies!
I haven’t kept one yet I guess I feel if I allow myself to keep one I will keep wanting to keep more lol sooooo getting a reborn for the Raster swap is gonna be extra special because I finally get to keep one
I am very anxious to get my Easter Swap baby ~ my first keeper! Let me just say that is going to be one spoiled rotten baby!
Maizie is such a sweetie! I think I would have to keep her too. Please share your photos here! Would love to see your baby pic with your keeper too.
I kept my first baby just so I could look back and see where I started. Then I bought twin a and b for keepers and my Maizie. I am doing a Valentines day swap with Tiffany and then the Easter swap so will have 6 keepers in a few months haha. Make that 7 I will be buying one from Jean in the next week once my tax check gets in
several of my keepers are from swaps. Otherwise there is no rhyme or reason.
The only ones I’ve kept so far are the ones that didn’t seem good enough to sell. I have two this year though, that I’m making for my self. One is Cassia. The other one is still up in the air.
I’ve kept 2 toddlers and my poor little Millo, he i would never find anyone who would love him like but me, I have kept others then thought should I? Then I sell it and regret it,or I create a custom for someone and it is so beautiful you want to keep it. I am planning on keeping two this year that my husband is buying for a belated B-Day gift, Naomi and Charlotte.
My goal is to have keepers from all my fav. Forum artists. I have a long way to go!!! ️️️
Yes! That is an awesome goal! I always love collecting art from my friends.
I’ll post pics of Maizie when I paint her. Here’s my keeper baby. My baby pic on the left and Aubrey Pratt on the right.
You did a wonderful job making your little look a like baby.
Aww, what a cutie you were! Nice work on your portrait baby!
Can I see you Millo. I had the kit but have made it for a swap baby and my 2 year old loves it so much. I want another of his kit for her to keep but I have only found 1 other blank kit of him and it was for $165.00 you can send the pic in a pm if you don’t won’t everyone to see it.
I really can’t take the credit. I took a picture of the face and printed it to map out the eyebrows. When I saw the black and white pic, it instantly reminded me of my baby pic. Strange how that worked out.
Thats a great idea and a collection with memories.
I have bought kits with the intention of keeping them and when I reborn them they decide they want to go live somewhere else and I have had kits I really was not rapt with and they decided they wanted to stay with me so… I guess that you can buy a kit with it being a keeper in mind and it may work our or you may just fall in love with one that tugs your heart that you never expected you would love
I do have one itty bitty bit of advice… NEVER sell one that you love with the thought that you will make it again for yourself later because you will probably never get around to it OR the second one may not have the same affect on you as your first no matter how close you are able to replicate it (not saying this is always the case but I would say it is a 90/10 chance that it won’t hold the same attraction as the one you fell in love with…ask me how I know?? )
