Genesis. Relacements. Air dry?

He is a great guy. Drives me insane sometimes but he’s such a sweet sort of old fashioned kind of guy. Hes the type to open my door, let me hang onto his arm when I need it. Always remembers my favorite things. When my cat Lafayette died I couldn’t handle anything but somehow he had the thought to get impressions of his paw prints so I could always have them.
Don’t get me wrong. Hes still a guy and he still gets on my last nerve some days.:joy: but its been 14 years and I wouldn’t change a thing.

I write fantasy romance. It has adult scenes but if I ever did get the guts to publish it I would do a “closed door.”version along with the standard one. because for me its more about the emotional connection of the characters rather than the actual acts themselves and some people dont like to read explicit things.

Not that I am anywhere near publishing. I will say my most recent work is about the Grim reaper falling in love with a human woman. it gets all kinds of messy.

I will for sure check hobby lobby for thinner.

Have you read “Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt” by Claire North? I think you might like it it’s about a sorta grim reaper who falls in love with life a little. I wouldn’t call it romance but the emotional connections are there. She is a young English author who writes like a tornado. Damn that woman can tell a gritty story. This is one of her more tame novels I am half way through it.

I will have to check her out.
Im having a bit of a rough time with mine because I want to keep specific religious references out of it. People get super offended and I dont want to deliberately do something offensive.
Bit hard to keep all of it out with the whole afterlife thing. But im trying.

If you can get your hands on this book I think you will find it a great reference for how to tackle that. It’s in Audible form if you listen to books (I listen to books while I paint or clean house). You could also write is like a romantic fairytale, then you can get rid of the religion entirely. Joanna Harris wrote a lot of romantic modern adult fairytales that were pure fantasy and easy to fall into. You can tell it’s a big love of hers.

I love that you write. Not sure I could ever write a novel, my ADD gets the best of me, I am chatty but organized thinking is not my super power, and a book is a long haul. If it ever comes to fruition or you want eyes on it, keep me in mind, I would love to read it.

The only person ive ever let read it is Raymond. He insists I should publish work. But….I am my own worst critic. And he is also biased. Lol!

Im thinking I need to shift to full fantasy world where modern religions wouldn’t have any impact. I just dont want to offend anyone. Although everything offends someone. Haha!

Im not super organized but I do have lists of things I take into account for each novel. For instance no under age romantic anything. Kids are kids. Teens are teens.

I also make sure my main male doesn’t do any major red flags. There are just some things that I think give people bad ideas about romance. For example in Twilight. Breaking into her house to watch her sleep isnt romance. Disabling her truck so she couldn’t leave is not romance. Its control.

My main characters do things they shouldn’t sure. But outright abuse is just a no go. So many popular novels are just a big giant Mardi gras worth of red flags.

Imo.

I suspect it seems like I am on your case, however I feel you are so incredibly gifted with so many talents, and fear seems to keep you from turning these fantastic gifts into an income.
If you were to send one of your stories to a reliable editor, no one has to know, if it isn’t excepted, try another editor, and another…. I still feel this will empower you, even if there is no interest. You will feel better in just the trying, in my humble opinion. Many popular writers are turned down, I’m sure you are aware. I just feel your angels are in agreement with me:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:. They want you to get out of your negative head and reach for the stars. You may decide to block me, put please believe me when I tell you, I truly care about your wellbeing and I believe it is time to stop bringing up your horrible past as an excuse, you have so much more power than you have tapped into.
PS, maybe you need to make this decision without your kind and loving husband.

First. Let ne say this. Everything im about to say is not from any place of anger, annoyance or negativity. Im not upset or angry at you. I have no negative feelings toward anyone. I just want to make that clear before I continue.

I dont “bring up my horrible past.” As an excuse for anything. I also dont live in a place of fear. Did I have a complete meltdown during the drive to the concert? Absolutely. But let me explain exactly where that comes from.
As a kid my best friend was another girl named Kim. I was sort of excluded at school because of my disability so friends were not easy to make. She always took the time to invite me places and include me in everything she could. Even if it meant modifying it so I could do it.

One morning coming to school I saw the life flight take off from in front of the church. I didn’t think anything of it. Until first period when the teacher told us what had happened.
Kim’s older sister Holly was driving them to school when they were hit head on by a police officer who had fallen asleep. Both Kim and Holly (who was a,senior and about 6 months pregnant at the time.) Were thrown through the windshield. They died instantly.

To make matters worse, in my home town my family was sort of the big wigs. Every aunt. Uncle. Older cousins. Worked as firemen. Town council. Selectmen. Ect. Every local government office was held by a member of my family.

So. That afternoon my father picked me up and when I was at his home my uncles came over. They both didn’t know I was laying in the back seat of the car when they told my father in minute gory detail exactly what happened to Kim and Holly. I heard it all while laying in the back seat.

I learned then juat how dangerous cars are. Thats what triggered the meltdown. I have been in therapy for years. When it comes to small things I can handle it. Ive had tires blow out. Ive had a truck completely die in the road. I handled it without even flinching. I dont let my trauma stop me from doing what I need to do.

But you have to understand the context. We were on a major interstate highway. Wedged between 18 wheelers in bumper to bumper traffic with endless sensor alarms going off and the car sputtering. We were in the middle lane and had to cross 2 lanes of traffic to get off the interstate. It was also over 100 degrees.

It was sensory overload and a trauma trigger all at the same time. I dont think my response was unreasonable given that.

With that said. My books are my babies. Its the place I go to create a world where best friends don’t die as kids and where even when things feel hard there is always a happy ending and the bad guys dont win.

We all know the real world is not like that. Not publishing them isnt because of fear. Its because while the characters are fiction the things they feel are mostly based on things ive personally experienced in some form or another. Its a bit like letting someone read my diary.

If that means im letting fear stop me, well that’s okay if you think that.

I have never let anything stop me. I was a less than 3 pounds preemie told I would never walk or talk or live on my own. But I do.

I survived a mother who used to pass out drunk in the middle of the yard in her underwear. Or disappear for weeks on end leaving my brothers and I having to look for change in the couch to eat.
I survived being homeless and sleeping on park benches in Massachusetts winter. For years.
And then I moved to Georgia, alone. With no car. No money and a,single suitcase of things to my name.

I have prsd and anxiety and depression. But I do not let fear control me. I am also not going to pretend my past did not happen and doesn’t affect me. A person cant be beaten with metal fly swatters as a,child and walk away without remaining affects.

I dont live in a place of fear. But I am also not going to pretend im okay when im not. I am honest. About everything.

I never said I would never publish anything. But if I asked to look at a fictional representation of your life I dont think you would be so quick to share with everyone. Its something thats going to take time.

Regardless of the fact that writing isnt something easy to make money with. Its a,hard market under the best circumstances.

Edit to add: I dont think its right to tell someone to stop bringing up something that caused them trauma. I do not talk about that unless, its relevant to the conversation. Its not as, if I go around talking about my past all the time.

I also do things all the time that terrify me. Including doctors visits. Ive had blood work and 2 doctors visits in the last two weeks. It causes such a trauma response that my blood pressure gets to stroke levels. My doctor was so concerned she put me on meds even tho it only happens when im afraid. But I still did it. I still went and did what I had to do.

You go girl! It is amazing what you have accomplished in your life time. I also applaud you that when you have shared your past experiences it comes from a place of honesty and strength . You have never come across to me as feeling sorry for yourself or wanting pity etc. It is not up to others to judge what you should or shouldn’t do because only you can speak for what you know to be right for yourself. I can understand why you would want to keep your writing to yourself. I have no doubt that you are good at it because I can see you are a very talented individual in everything you do. You are well spoken in your writings here as well so I know you can write well. I also love your bears so very much as they are amazingly beautiful to me! From what I have seen of your reborn dolls they are lovely as well. You just keep doing you. In time, you will know when you are ready to do whatever you decide is your next step. You do not need anyone else’s approval one way or another. I know you know that but sometimes it helps to be encouraged. Hugs!

You know…I had to take a little bit to pause and sit with how this made me feel. The truth is if you can read all I have posted here and see me as using my past as some sort ot excuse to not do things…. You arent truly seeing me.

The world would be so much better if people would open up and say. “This scared me.” “I dont feel safe.” And “im struggling.” Being honest and open about feelings isnt weak or an excuse.
I grew up bottling everything and pouring it into novels. Ive been writing since middle school. Its my therapy for dealing with my past.

I dont know how to get people to understand what my life was like. I grew up surrounded by alcohol and drugs. My younger brother followed that path and had to go to rehab to stop. Being offered those substances daily from my own family meant I had to learn to stand up and say no. Over and over from the age of about 7 and up.

I will always be the type to be honest about things. Because bottling them up and pretending its not happening doesn’t help me. I make people uncomfortable with it but if im feeling a certain way I will absolutely voice it.
Like the concert. When the car broke down my exact words were “I do not feel safe and Im getting out of this car.” I didn’t scream or do anything but cry and say flatly that I did not feel safe.

Those feelings were valid and they arent weak.

I have weak moments. But I do not make excuses. I am not weak.

Im sorry you dont see that.

I have never ever told you that you are weak, you are an extremely brave women, you have been through hell, I too have lived with a hellish childhood molested from a baby until around 12. My mother had to know. My mother when I spoke of this too my mother, father and two of my brothers, my sick mother had the nerve to say in front of my family that if I had wanted to hurt Her, I certainly had found a way! . No one in the room came to my defense. I could share more but I won’t. The home life I grew up in has haunted me for years. I finally found a living angel to help me deal with all my self doubt, fears, depression, etc, etc. this lady is very spiritual, not religious , spiritual, she uses many God given gifts with here healing, one that is hypnosis, seeing ourselves a child, feeling our fears and teaching that these fears our in the past, no longer need to control our life. You and I have talked about this privately.
Sara, I really don’t think I have said you are weak, I clearly told you that I saw you as spiritually powerful, kind, non judgmental lady, people we need more on this earth.
I want your beautiful self to blossom, it is possible to rid yourself of all these terrific horrible memories, messages in your head, nothing more.
Many people including my brothers have continued to think and do very much as their dysfunctional parents, they have not had the courage to seek outside help, help that really works. Many folks don’t see themselves as needing intervention, That is fine, that’s their journey. It can take years to find this, the personal work can be difficult, but if you don’t see any difference in your life, it may be time to find someone else or not, whatever is working for you.
I realize it is time for me to stop sharing with you, this is affecting me also. However, please try to remember all the kind things I have said to you and reconsider saying I think you are weak, never, never have I believed that.
P, I believe I too am honest, I usually trust My honesty, sometimes a problem for myself.

Perhaps you should reread your previous post because to me it came across very judgemental.

With that said. I am in therapy and have been for some time. Trauma is trauma and something I will live with in some form when there are triggers.

I dont live my daily life in that head space. But I will not deny my feelings when I feel the need to express, them.

Edit to add. This isnt the trauma Olympics. I am truly sorry that those things happened to you.
I have accepted my past. I have written a long letter to my mother and I let her go with the love she never showed me. I dont offer her a place in my life. But I hold no anger toward her. Only pity. I am not a,mother but I have looked at the sweet innocent faces,of my nephew and neice and I will never be okay with how she treated me.

Trauma responses like I had when going to the concert and like I have when going to the doctor. Are not conscious choices. I have been sitting in the doctors office having a conversation and my blood pressure will rise so fast that they won’t let me leave until it comes back down. That’s not a choice. I wish it was.
The truth of it is the only thing that ever made all of my anxiety leave was Lafayette. Hes gone now and ive had to find other coping mechanisms since.

But even after the meltdown in the car, I still made it to the concert and home. I could have called an Uber. I could have refused to get back in the car.
But I didn’t I faced one of my deepest fears.

You are of course welcome to stop talking to me. It is your choice. I am not one to try to force people to be in my life. The right people will stay. The rest will fall away like the wheat from the chaff.

I wish you the best. Regardless.

Okay so. What exact paint thinner do you use with genesis. I used,to use straight up paint thinner but it smells so bad and someone told me a,while ago that I should have been using something else but I cant remember what. Lol

Is use Gamesol if I am using flesh colors or colors with white added. I use Mona Lisa for everything else. Michael’s usually has a discount.

Interesting. What is the reason for using different thinners based on whether a paint has white in it?

I find that Odorless Mineral Spirits makes my eyes itch, my throat burn and my head hurt after I been painting a bit. So I now use Ecohouse Extra Mild Citrus thinner when I need a little solvent. I also use Xodus Thinning Oil or Gemini Thinner. Both are non-toxic and do not produce fumes but you do have to be careful not to use too much of these in your paint or you can cause some of the pigment from the cured layer to lift up as you pounce a new one on. IRHSP has a new one as well and I have some of it. It is very much like the Gemini. The Xodus one is a tad more “oily” which works best for me when painting hair.

Edited to add the Gemini thinning medium works really well in Genesis paint as a thinner but it does add sheen to the paint. I am hoping Bountiful Baby is going to make it more matte but I don’t know. I did let them know I thought it was too shiny.
