Do you know which kits you have?

Well, i’ve, after three years of collecting kits and working on them in my spare time, have just now created a list of my kits. No more buying duplicates because I forgot that I already have it. There are some I looked at and thought “why on earth did I buy this kit?”. I’m going to organize and alphabetize my list I really must go on a no more kit diet. But,I swear I bought Thomas asleep, and he’s nowhere to be found. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hahaha that sounds fun. I’m actually very careful what I buy and usually only have a few kits at a time. I know, I’m crazy

No, you’re smart. Bad thing is I have six more coming and three preorders.

I keep a list. I have a list of kits I have, kits I want, and reborns I have completed. I keep it in a notebook… in case my computer crashes again.

How are you able to achieve such controll?? Lol

Wow you are as organize as me. I have no idea what kits I have and don’t keep any records. When I finish a new one and I’m storing it I find the others I have finishwe and forgot I had and remember to repost them for sale lol… I’m a big mess  I need to learn from you.

I’m very careful about my spending. The most I’ve ever spent on a single vinyl kit was $105 and I immediately regretted it afterwards… But you live and you learn. I have only ever preordered 1 doll kit (recently, so still waiting) and painted 1 other non-BB kit. Everything else has been BB 2nds or 1st quality on super sale. Painted about 28 babies… (not including preorder) I keep a profit sheet so I know which babies I’ve made, how much they cost, and what I sold them for (including how much profit/loss I made on them)
I try to be super organized, otherwise it’s hard for me to think.

I just went through my kits last week. I voice recorded the kits on my phone as I went through them.

I’ve got all of my kits memorized. Helps that I only have 10 kits though! With 2 on my immediate wish list and 2 on preorder.

I have all of my kits hanging in bags on skirt hangers. I can easily see and get to them. I keep their names on the bags to know at a glance. Then I have all of my spare limbs in a box underneath. I have as much fun organizing them as I do painting! I used to keep a spreadsheet as well as to cost vs. sale price but have fell quite behind!

Yes, I have a spreadsheet with all the info; kit name, COA number, date of purchase, cost + shipping cost. When I start working on them I move them from the “stash” part to “WIP” part, I also fill in what eyes and mohair I will be using. Once finished the doll goes either to “listed” section with date of 1st listing, or it is moved to “KEEPER” section. When sold I also note date and selling price, and lately I added a new column for the person who bought the baby.

It all helps when doing the tax

I keep all of my kits in individual shoe boxes with their bodies, plates eyes, COA etc in the box with them, All of the boxes are labeled with the kit name and sculptor and recently I started putting round little colored stickers on them to identify certain things. I was also keeping track of my kits on a simple spreadsheet, but recently updated my spreadsheet to include a lot more information similar to what @ludmila described. It’s making life much easier and also helps a ton with pricing for sales, especially on the few customs i’ve done recently.

I started like that only buying sales but as I got better and started tuning out of kit options In BB I started to spend more buying from Macphersons and sold out on eBay.:grin: the thing that helps me a lot on controlling my spending is having one low credit credit card strictly for reborns expenses. I buy all my supplies with that card to ensure that I don’t over spend. It has a credit of only $500 and no interest, therefor I don’t spend extra money and can’t go crazy. I currently only own $100 and have my work area full of supplies. For me that is all the organization I need lol

I have 10 to. In every shelf lol. But I think I know what I have. Now the bodies and if they have a COA that is another story.

I keep a spreadsheet, too. With that big sale, I checked off quite a lot. Hopefully 2017 brings me opportunity to buy a lot more, but I am definitely going to be a lot more picky with the ones that I choose. Some of the detail on the older kits is quite disappointing, I have found.

I have way to many kits to remember so I have a word document (or 2) with pics and prices and other info on the kits. I add to it when another kit arrives. On saying that, I have definitely slowed right down with purchases. My idea was to have a stash on hand plus all extras while I am still a working woman and on retiring, and with more free time, I will get stuck into reborning them or sell them off as kits if plan A for some reason doesn’t happen. I think it will be a very hard hobby to quit. Quite an addiction this.!
