Did you know?

Did you know you can use thick medium and thinning medium with your air dry paints? I read a blog that said as long as you heat set after using the mediums they can be used. I only needed it for my nails so, hopefully I can heat set with a regular hair dryer. Does anyone know any more information regarding thick and thinning medium with air dry paints?

I am far from an expert, but pretty sure that your regular hair dryer will not get hot enough to set any of the Genesis mediums. I am really interested in this though. Can you link to the blog?

Girl I am so not technologically literate  if you walk me through how to do it I might be able to. I’ll see if I can find it again real quick

I read it, but its not clear to me exactly how it is being used so hopefully someone will tell us more. I think it is just being used to create 3D strokes in the brows, but not actually mixed with the paint. I have done this with Genesis Matte, but not the thick medium. Using the thinning medium is more puzzling to me as I am not sure what that would be used for.

Well, this morning I thought I had used thinning medium to paint the purple at the bottom of my baby’s nail and realized after the fact that I used matte varnish mixed in my paint. I’m hoping it will wash off easily and that I will still be able to paint realistic nails! I hope it doesn’t comprise the air dry paint I will use to paint my nails! I was careful to use paint brushes that I don’t use with my air dry. You think as long as I wash the varnish off the nails I should be okay? I used very little and only painted half of the nail. What should I wash it off with? Just water?

Unless it’s really thick you should be able to paint over the matte varnish.

@Summer i have always used air dry paints. I currently use Liquitex Soft Body. I don’t ever bake my babies because it can affect the color. I use 3-D-Effect-Lack for dimensional look and feel for eyebrows, etc. No baking needed. I even use it to correct small flaws in the vinyl-tiny holes, misshapen nostrils, etc before I star painting.

Awesome :grinning: thanks so much!!! I’ll definitely have to get some!!! Should I wash of the little bit of heat set varnish I painted to the nail beds or just paint right over it? I used very little on each nail.

Sorry disregard my question  you already answered  this won’t cause my air dry paints to rub off since I did not bake the heat set varnish?

I’d paint over it. Also, I got the thickening medium online. I don’t know if you can buy it in stores.

Where did you get it from?

I got it on Amazon from a German company. The ad is in German so if you want to read it you have to translate to English at the bottom.

Since you haven’t baked the varnish on, you probably should take it off. If you use a toothpick it shouldn’t take paint off the fingers. Then repaint just the nails.
