I am so disappointed in one of our members here that joined this baby swap as they sent out a baby that was filled/weighted with sand (big no no) poorly rooted and painted sloppy. Lower than beginner work in my opinion and the baby was also filled with some kind of plastic fragrance beads. This is absolutely unacceptable. I feel like I have been taken advantage of just to receive a good quality baby from someone else. The rooted hair was sealed and glued with some kind paper glued to the inside of the head.
At this point, I hope that no else receives a baby in this condition.
As the Coordinator of this swap, I will be making a new baby for the person who received this badly made baby and sending it out to her by next week, so I will be very busy for the next few days as I will be working hard to get the new baby completed and sent as quickly as possible.
The point is that even with seeing WIP pictures you can’t see what is on the inside of the baby that has been made and picture don’t always show the sloppy paint job that was done, the baby had missing paint in some areas as well.
I am not going to let this one person ruin this Christmas Baby Swap for any of us that may want to do this again next year but there will be more pictures that will be required to be sent for now on and there will be a list of supplies that will have to be included and will be expected to be on the first purchase confirmation for now on so that all the babies will have acceptable quality weighting and stuffing.
Not trying to call anyone out or point fingers but can you post the pics so on our next exchange maybe people will think again before committing and trying to be sly!
I know there was talk about waiting until Christmas to open, but this may be a reason to open now so that there aren’t disappointments on that special day. Plus, if the other party hasn’t shipped, then they can stop the swap. Clearly, some people aren’t playing fairly.
OH, MY!! It really looks like someone took a doll from their collection and sent that awful thing to someone else. Such a shame! These swap babies should all be new creations and a representation of your work as an artist.
I have heard of artists that soak the poly pellets in fragrance oil(like baby powder scent). Could that be what the pellets are in the nylon?
Same here, I dislike dishonest people who take advantage of other people for their own personal gain. The person that made this baby did know better or should have she has been reborning for a while, she is not new.
OMG…sickening. I realize everyone is not on the same skill level, but this, THIS is totally unacceptable and whoever did this should be banned from all future swaps. Disgusting.
I never join swaps any more because I got burned in much the same manner about 5 yrs. ago, only my doll was filled with DIRT.
These swaps are great until something like this happens and there always seems to be a bad apple in every case.
That’s dreadful! For an experienced artist, why is there paint around the lips? And the nose looks like a dried nose bleed. How sad for the person who received this.
I’m curious. Was this doll disassembled to satisfy curiosity as to the smell and leaking sand, etc? Or was she actually mailed in pieces?
Either way, I kind of agree that this person should be named so that none of us get swindled in the future - whether it is a baby swap or some other transaction. I don’t want to deal with someone who lacks integrity like this person.
This particular baby was taken apart because the person that received this baby was going to fix the baby and then found the other issues and has decided that this baby is no longer fixable as the sand did leak out into the body as well.
I don’t have a dog in this hunt because I wasn’t in the swap but I have 2 comments. Are you SURE that is sand? I have seen Harbor Freight glass that looks like very fine white sand like that. Secondly, if it that is sand, it appears to be white craft sand. While sand is not something I put in my reborns now we did use play sand and craft sand back in the day. While play sand had to be baked to be sure to sterilize it, craft sand is supposed to be already sanitized. I have read of ladies who still use the craft sand if they don’t ship abroad. Beyond, that I will say that is a horrible paint and rooting job.
