Or will it damage the vinyl?
I remove it with 90% alcohol. I also clean with alcohol and dawn when I get a kit that is especially oily. It does not damage the vinyl.

I use Windsor and Newton to remove any kind of paint, then wash with hot water and Dawn.
I use alcohol frequently, most often on heads. I have a real problem getting the first flesh layer smooth. I find it is really easy to strip that layer off with the alcohol when it is fresh so I can begin again. It’s lots cheaper than W&N which I use when the paint is cured.
Yes the 90%, but I also use Windsor for the hardest parts, especially the primer layer. Looks like it’s all removed but it’s not. Then dawn alone or with baking soda mix or soft scrub cleaner.
