Atrocious Mohair

Anyone ever have horrible issues with mohair. I washed it before I used it no staining. After I rooted it. I noticed stains here and there like on the toothbrush. I washed it again and the water ran clear. Today I decided to uncover her and noticed that her hat had stains from dye. :flushed:and to make matters worse it stained her forehead. So I’ve washed with dawn n warm water n it’s running clear again and didn’t stain the towel. Sooo When I sell her now it will be just to recoup money spent Bc idk how it’s going to behave in the long run. :woman_facepalming:

The only horrible issues I have ever had with mohair was when I rooted delta dawn on a soft vinyl and it constantly matted no matter what I did. Ever since then I have stuck with using Slumberland Nursery’s mohair and haven’t run into any problems with matting or dyes

I was told to use slumberland, but the color I wanted wasn’t available at the time, so I used another place. The hair is amzing to the touch but the dye seems to be the problem. My fault for not waiting. I told my husband next time if I have to wait 2 months for hair I will.

I made the mistake of trying cheap Sophia’s heritage collection mohair. It totally ruined the doll.

Yeah Slumberland has the problem of not having all the colours and styles in stock at all times which sucks but it is definetly worth the wait for their hair!!

Try Angora Motique mohair. I’ve got all kinds of hair and so far hers wins. Hardly any waste at all and no matting up.

They must not have used the acid dye. I know some people use store bought dye that we (humans) use and that tends to run. I have been washing mohair that I bought from a lady in Germany…Im going to try my first dye job…with Jacquard acid dye, next weekend. The hair is beautiful and soft, I think Ill save some of it, leave it white, for platinum blonde babies. Its hard to find decent hair in Europe so I decided to do it this way and its far less expensive than buying from the US. All I have to do is wash out the hair, put conditioner on it, and comb out the tangles and debris. Now I just need to dye and condition again and Ill be good to go.

edit…oops, I didnt buy the mohair in Germany it was from Russia

Let me know if you have any questions along the way! :hugs:

@dinokc I’m so sorry to hear! I’m sure she would look super cute with a headband. Sounds like you did everything you could to work with that hair. So frustrating!!

That sounds like quite a job. When I heard what all goes into processing mohair I vowed to stick to buying mohair. What they do takes extreme patience, time and talent.

She sends it sorted so its not too hard. I couldn’t buy it completely unprocessed. Its really nice hair so it comes clean and combs out pretty easily.
