A organization question

So I used to have a craft room before we had a fire. Now after nearly two years of not having a specific area to work due to there not being enough rooms, my parents are letting me use the basement to work until my sister moves this summer and I get an upstairs room. Problem is, this area is also used by everyone else. Especially the kids. Does anyone have any tips about how to set this up to be a functional craft room and still be useable for everyone else? Tips on how to make sure the kids stay out of stuff would be helpful as well.

For years I had a corner in our bonus room before one of my kids moved out. I set things up strategically so that my space was section off to a corner closed in by my tables, bins and such.

Do you use heat set or air dry? This case locks and looks like it would work well to store genesis jars, brushes, wedges, etc.

You can buy a few plastic 2-drawer file cabinets that have a built-in lock and key.

Air-dry. That might work though!

Check out used computer armoires, small entertainment armoires, etc. Two years ago I bought a big white oak handmade roll top desk to use as my work station; the owners were anxious to get rid of it, i.e., have it moved so it was a perfect $200 deal. It has all the bells and whistles of a roll top desk with drawers and cubbie holes. My original plan was to push everything back at the end of the day and close it, but… I mean… I WAS going to be painting the very next day and it seemed a waste of energy. A pull out keyboard tray worked for me as my painting station when I used a converted two door Sauder type armoire. When the bottom two drawers started to fall apart, ala Sauder, I removed the drawers and hardware and store plastic bins there, concealed with a extension cafe’ rod and homespun fabric type of curtain. Look outside the norm and then congratulate yourself! Thrift stores provide good options and nothing needs to be a new purchase or argh put together.

I didn’t think about thrift stores! I’m gonna go to some tomorrow and see what I can find!

I’m only thinking if you can enclose the area somehow, like a corner office type of thing where people don’t feel like they can walk through it easily. Hmmm, I’ll have to think on this one
