One Caleb finished - One to go

#1

Finished one caleb at 9:19 pm EST. Debating on making it a girl. I was going to sell the baby but am starting to get attached after finding I still had a little dress that fit, and making pacis that are small enough and…just getting attached. Need to let go and sell some more babies! Here’s the link to the main album http://s1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh5 … Caleb%202/

So boy or girl? Or an either way baby?!!

Very sweet… did you know you ended up posting it twice…?

oops! Thanks, taking off the extra one…sometimes I get kicked off and I accidently repost.

So very cute! How did you make the pacifier? That Caleb is so very tiny, I never even thought to look for one when I made it!

Yes, I made the paci using a suction cup, a button and some beads plus a magnet. You just cut off the top part of the suction cup to fit by the nose on the upper side, cut off the part that holds in this case christmas light strings, snip the back part of the button off so it is flat, then glue the button on, put a string of beads around to hide the back a little and add a magnet. Then you have a paci that doesn’t swallow Caleb’s whole face. I can’t remeber the website that gave that idea. I’ll post it later if I find it. She makes really tiny ones so I modified it a little. I found it … http://www.elizabethtownsley.com/pb/wp_ … 6f34a.html . I’m going to try a few more ideas today…I also made one using a part of a bleach bottle but still not as happy with it.

DJ, it’s precious…I love Caleb, but I can see this one should be a girl.
Question: on the arms and legs, what did you use on the inside? Polyfill, or weighted somehow? The limbs are so small I’m wondering how/what to use on my own.

Simply precious! I have been looking for Tiny Sleeper by Dawn Donofrio, because I loved the ones I created quite a while ago, and would like to do a tiny baby again. I looked at Caleb, but wasn’t sure if he could/would fill the bill, but now I can see how petite and precious he/she is. The pacifier is wonderful! Thank you for sharing!
Blessings,
Bonnie

I filled Caleb’s limbs with glass beads and sealed the opening with a cotton ball and silicone.

I filled the arms and legs about 1/3 of the way with the glass bead sand, then used an ink pen to poke stuffing in the holes and since I forgot to get end plugs and I was afraid of the sand leaking, I cut circles from a water/ milk jug and glued them to the ends with e6000.

thanks everyone! Glad you liked her (I just keep thinking her instead of him). I was going to sell this one but after putting her together, it is getting harder to part with her so maybe I will keep one of the calebs. Having fun thinking of accessories that I could make for her.

Which reminds me - is it worthwhile to make a few things to go with a baby that you are going to sell or do you usually just go with the minimum to send out? Would people rather buy a doll mostly bare and get what they wanted or would they prefer to have one-stop shopping? And which makes your listing stand out from the others - low price with no accessories or higher price with custom accessories?

Thank you Pia and DJ for the advice on those tiny limbs. I’m always so afraid to “break the rules” of the glass beads in a nylon! Don’t know why! Duh! Sometimes I’m slow on the uptake! To use Karen’s phrase, “I’m awesome that way!”

Maybe I’m doing things wrong but I fill the lower parts of all the limbs with loose glass beads to fill the fingers and toes about to the knee or elbow. I thought that is what was recommended plus it gives a little support to the vinyl and makes it feel more real to me. If it is bad, please let me know!!! I thought the glass beads were only bad for silicone dolls.

I put loose glass beads in all limbs, top it off with fiber fill or cotton balls and deal the limb opening with silicone sealant. Why did you think there was something wrong with doing that??

One of those panic moments that you have when you’ve been working on something for so long that you wonder if you messed up somewhere! Especially when someone else doesn’t know about it. Like now when it is almost 2 am and I’ve been working on dolls all day…my brain starts going "what did I forget this time?’ and the answer is always eyebrows!!! I always forget them. I have to paint them on both calebs tomorrow. Plus make more mini pacis. Plus go to town. Plus decide whether to keep a caleb baby for me…

I still have those times when I think that I’ve forgotten how to do things right. One of those other things is to go to bed at a decent time instead of going on to finish painting or rooting or…
